Ehh I doubt Japanese companies need us to support them, they get good business in their own country, the bigger companies with the money export their parts here probably only to be nice so the people who really want it can get their hands on the good stuff, but I'm sure whether they stay afloat or not depends on their sales in Japan.

So it's more like buy real aero if you want more cool stuff to be sold here.

Japanese companies aren't in as comfy a financial position as you may think. There are a few teetering on the edge of closing because of all the knock-offs in Japan. Supermade no longer sells footwork or exhausts and with the copies available now who knows how much longer their aero lineup is going to last unless they get a good hook in the US.

The latest company to go under is CST. They still have some stuff left on the shelf but they're not going to be restocked after that's all gone. I tried to order 10 sets of Zero-1 Hyper only to find out they don't have anything left better than 8.5J.

*nod*

I heard rumours of Anceltion kicking the bucket, and Brain Cadena going bankrupt as well.

A number of big name companies are going under as well. Trouble is, there were so many Japanese auto part companies that banks were turning companies down for business loans, so, the startup money comes from "other" sources. These other sources are seeing the writing on the wall and are pulling out before they take a loss themselves. Too many choices is good for customers but bad for businesses, not enough money to go around, therefore they're gonna start dropping like flies

You heard it here first :P

Also, some replica makers make some pretty good changes to the original design. Take Rotary Extreme for example. They were selling a 99 spec front end, without the license plate holder on the front bumper! It was so much cleaner looking, but it was just a slightly modified replica of an OEM Mazda front bumper on the 99 specs. Or a friend of mine made a copy of the STi GT style wing that was availible in Japan only, except he made it out of carbon fiber and was selling em for around $200 a pop. Or how about random fiberglass hoods shops make in different color weave of carbon fiber.

They're all knock offs. Are they any better or worse than what you're describing?

This is EXACTLY the excuse that the copy companies make... "ohhh we changed it 20%, so it isn't the same"
Come on, get real.

These companies shouldn't get support because they take the original product and COPY it. All of the time and work and money put into creating the original design is stolen. It is quite simple to understand.

Simply removing a license plate holder is a pretty stupid excuse.

No 240sx owner, unless loaded, will go drifting in an authentic aero.
majority of 240sx owners are poor.
get by using fake aero, who gives a fuck, jebus.

if you're gonna track the car, get fake aero.

The first part of my post was sarcastic, I guess you missed that part.

Point being, more of the Rotary Extreme front bumpers were sold over the Mazda 99 specs in the US. Availibility was a bit reason, but primarily its because RE met a demand that the market had. Yes, it's a replica, yes it's stealing someone else's design, but its also meeting a demand in the market.

No one bitched when Micro$oft stole Xerox's idea of a mouse operated user interface, why are people bitching when companies make knock offs, and adjust it to their own needs?
