So, I just got my 2871 .64 back from my Garrett dealer. Apparently the previous owner of it, who only used it in 8 events, had something go through his exhaust manifold which chipped up every single blade on the exhaust wheel. The rad thing about it that is Garrett has a "cartridge replacement program" wherein they replace the entire cartridge for $370.00. I got the previous owner (a friend of mine) to pay for it, since he had told me the turbo was in tip-top shape. Sooo.. I basically have a brand new turbo, minus housings, and actually the exhaust housing just came back from Jet Hot too, so it's better than new.

Got some Tomei 260 Poncams, 850cc Sard injectors, and Tomei valve springs to throw at the set-up as well. Looking for 350whp, daily driven, on as little boost as possible. Tune to come in the next month or so..

So, i got her tuned n we tried to push 18psi but the wastegate wouldnt hold boost and would only boost 16psi and spike to 17 at one point.

Even with that issue i put down 381whp and 303trq with power holding until my 7600 redline. i wish the trq was a little higher but its still great for only 16psi!!! lol im working on going external and running 20psi with water/alcohol.

also, one last note. this was done on a dynojet but the funny thing is that it put down 325whp on a dynodynamics dyno at 12psi and when i took to these guys to get tuned we did a base run at the same level and it actually read lower than the DD Dyno. funny? yeah i thought so too. oh well now that i have a good tune a review of the tuner and fuck ups of the previouse tuner will be posted.

Mods so far are:
S14 SR20
HKS 256/264 10.5mm cams
apexi HG (stock thickness)
740cc inj
circuit sports fuel pump
z32 MAFS
2871r .64 52trim
New design GReddy intake Mani
MR Ex. Mani
AEM water kit

I got it tuned by paul bischoff and reggie @ OSR. good peoples. he actually tuned directly from the handheld which i thought was crazy but he's been at this for over 15 years and caught the mistakes that were made before and figured out why the other tuner couldnt go past 12psi without seeing detonation.

Those are badass numbers.
My set-up is pretty common to yours and I'm expecting similar numbers. I will be running an ethonol/fuel mixture pretty much all the time, although I'm running both of my manifolds stock. We shall see soon.

yeah, im sure that with the fuel mixture you're going to run the tuner will be able to play more with the timing and boost! you should be driving a beast!! I imagine that with the stock mani's the responce should be insane.

Agree on both points! It's soo hot in AZ right now that I'm not really hurried to get the tune done, although I'm really looking forward to 120+ more whp.. I'd rather it be a lil cooler actually, even though I'm aware of the protective benefits of running ethanol.

You stated that you're replacing the gate. Your 2871 is internally gated, correct?

I think this will fit on the new housing, I switched from the tomei bottom mount to a peakboost top mount, and used this wastegate with about 1.5" of space from tp[ of the wastegate to the shock tower.

I would like to see how this application will turn out on a decently built SR.

how about you buy all these parts first before asking. And then install them. There are so many pages about this turbo and your setup is nothing special. You will prob make around 370-380whp.

And why are you buying all these parts and only running a 2871r. With everything built, you should be running a gt30. 2871r is a waste with your engine build.

whats up fellas? i wasnt about to browse through the entire 33 pages of this sweet topic. although, im sure there are a few people with the exact same setup i have.
here it is so far:
sr red top
bored .020 over
cometic 1.1 head gasket
greddy intake manifold
hks 264 step 2 intake and exhaust
2871rs .64ar
port and polish head
ferrea valves
titanium valve springs and retainers
greddy front mount v-spl
titek denso 850cc injectors
apexi afc
enthalpy tuned ecu
equal length manifold(i was told its titanium as well, but i highly dout it is)(bastard mechanic)
walboro 255

all parts are installed and im waiting to get my intercooler back. had a few small holes in it. once i get it all back im looking to get it on the dyno and tuned as well.
i guess im shooting for approx. 350ish at the wheels.
what do u think? am i on track for that or no?

i also would love to have a external WG but there is no room. i was thinking about that slim one just mounted on the downpipe or something. if i weld the internal flap shut then it shouldnt be an issue.

i will say there are some very impressive numbers on these setups.

You will hit 350 pretty easily. I talked to a guy with a s13 sr this weekend and he said he was only running a safc on his 2871r setup. He was pushing around 370-380. He definately could back it up because he was running mid to high 7's consistantly in his s13 with slicks.

in what the 1/8th mile?

I find it hard to believe he runs 7's in the 1/4 mile seeing that mine runs low 12's on street tires

That's cool -- I figured that it was internally gated, but wasn't sure how you had yours set up.

I have yet to run the ethanol/fuel mixture as of yet. I'm currently running a ProEFI engine managmnt. Running this unit, in conjunction with a GM fuel pressure sensor (from the flexfuel vehicles) will allow me to run different fuel mixtures. They're already doing this with 2jz-gte Supra's on this computer, but I will be the first do so with an SR! To me, this is the best of both worlds, as I won't have to rely solely on pump or ethanol and can run more aggressive timing, all the while enjoying the protection that higher octane provides.

did u ever think that maybe i do have all these parts and they have been installed and that maybe i was just wondering cause im stuck over in afghanistan and have to wait till i come home before i find out what my numbers will be so i just thought id get a little insight
Not to belittle the fact that you're stuck overseas, and hence cannot enjoy the car currently, he does bring up a decent point: with all of your internals upgraded, you should prob be running a 3071/3076. My 2 cents would be to run a twin scroll turbo and manifold set-up. There's a couple of companies out there that make top notch manifolds wherein vs that of the 2871 .64 you're be losing very very little low end response but gaining crazy mid and top end! With your set-up you should be going after 450whp all day. My thoughts..

GL w/ the set-up regardless, and get home in 1 piece!

Can u run a 3071/3076 w/ a bottom mount manifold? Reason I ask is because I already have an HKS bottom mount mani. I was seriously thinking about the 3071r w/the atp external wg housing IF I can keep my a/c as I have heard there might be clearance issues

well the only thing is im not looking to put that much power to the wheels im looking for a dd that has enough balls to get the job done with the least amount of strain. if i wanted to go balls to the wall i would def get that 3071 but im lookin for reliablity not stupid amounts of power
