The 10 Stages of NBA Playoff Hate

1. The Greeting. “Who we playing? Oh, they OK. I have a cousin who lives there. Good people in that city. May the best team win.”

2. The Recognition. Hits around Game 3-4. “Hmm… these guys are kind of annoying, actually.”

3. The Annoyance. Game 5-6. “These guys play dirty, and their fans are dumb as fu$%. Who would even live in that shithole anyways?”

4. The Irritation. Game 7. “I don’t like anything about these pu&^$%. My lunch didn’t even taste that good today, just thinking about them. I can’t believe that Stern pushed this series to 7.”

5. The Respite. After the series is over, win or lose, all the way until you meet in the playoffs again. “Glad we don’t have to play those bitches anymore. I was sick of looking at them. They suck, their fans suck, their moms suck, even their faces suck. Fu$% them.”

6. The Second Series. “Oh, not these fu$%#^s again. I can’t stand these fu$%#^s. We CANNOT lose to these assholes. We just can’t. We got one of their fans at work and he gives me a big shit-eating grin in the morning every time they beat us.”

7. The Pure Hate. Starts with the first jump ball and lasts until the end of time. “I cannot believe that I ever liked or respected Dwayne Wade as a basketball player or a person. Fu$% that guy. I hate the way he looks, I hate the way he plays, I hate his facial expressions, I hate his steroid jaw, I hate the way he kicks his legs out on the drive and I hate that little move he does where he pushes off, that the refs never call for some really annoying fu$%^&g reason. I don’t even respect him for being a single dad, really, because it’s his fault he married a groupie, and you know a nanny is raising those kids anyways and they are just gonna grow up to be even more spoiled versions of the douche that he is every second of his entire life.”

8. The Fake Respect. Many years later. “Remember those battles our teams used to have? Yeah… those were the days. BTW, fu$% you.”

9. The Lakers. “fu$% them. fu$% their fans. fu$% their faces. fu$% their moms. fu$% their fans’ moms’ faces. I hate the color purple, and want to bumrush every fu$%#^g douchebag I see in a Lakers jersey, even 10 years later.”

10. The Anti-Christ. Bill Laimbeer. I’d kill him right now. In front of a cop. And if that cop was from Boston, nobody saw nothing.

And to that Playoff Hate post, I'll never understand why people hate the Lakers THAT much.

-The org as a whole is revolutionary for not only LA but for the NBA
-They've had a winner's mentality where getting to the Playoffs was step one and not the ceiling
-They've developed players into strong figures in the sports world and typically give back to the org/league/causes
-They were once a smart organization in terms of team building
-Championships speak volumes

I don't expect people to be fans but you just got to respect what the org has been able to achieve. You can hate the fans but not the org.

Thanks. It was posted by someone during the Warriors vs Nuggets series and it seemed funny and true since the Warriors are strangers to playoff teams (Warriors don't really have any real rivalries since they are rarely in the playoffs) and, at the time, you can visually see how Denver and GS players seem to be annoyed/frustrated/hated each other as the series progressed.

I don’t know about the ESPN forums since I’m not familiar with them, but I did check it out once years ago and ESPN actually has a forum for each team on their site. It also seemed dead, but that was many years ago.

I occasionally visit various team forums and most are pretty much similar. Fans usually post hypothetical, but realistic trades and how they benefit both teams or how they think some of their own players have potential or are what they are after being given years to develop and need to be traded.

Just thought I’d share because it was funny and seemed true to me, but it is just regarding teams in general. Don’t take it seriously, there are references to hate of the Heat and Boston also. (The Ninth stage being specifically the lakers is probably just a NorCal reference/joke since it was posted on a Warriors forum).

I’m sure the Lakers organization is well respected for its accomplishments by everyone. It’s probably more about the fans and pride. I think there’s just always been a rivalry between Norcal and Socal things in general and I don’t really know why either (Warriors fans hate the Lakers, Kings fans hate the Lakers, Dodgers and Giants, Nortenos vs Surenos, etc.).

Not too long ago, I was out at a restaurant near SFO that had a Warriors game playing and some SoCal tourist was talking loudly on his phone telling his gf/wife about how homesick he is, SF is lame, I hate all bay area teams and they have a shitty Warriors game on. I also flew back from LAX to SFO last December and when we landed the pilot announced “Welcome to San Francisco, home of the World Champion San Francisco Giants” and a bunch of SoCal people were booing so I don’t think it’s exclusive that Norcal hates SoCal.

Knicks should keep JR Smith and go after Chancey Billups, Nene, and Chris Anderson so they can reunite most of the members from the most successful Nuggets team ever and maybe make it to the Eastern Conference Finals like they did.

Even if the Pacers and Spurs don't close out their respective series tonight, I find it hard to believe that the Warriors can win 2 straight against the Spurs or the Knicks can win 3 straight against the Pacers.

I do think the Warriors have a better chance than the Knicks to win their series though since they are younger and the Spurs did fall to OKC after being up 2-0 and losing 4 straight.

Explain how I'm a bandwagoner? The Knicks are my hometown team. I've been following them since I first started getting into the NBA in the late 90s. If I was a bandwagoner, I would have jumped ship over to the Nets when they moved to BK, root for the Heat to win, etc.

I'm a realist fan, not a blind homer. Sorry. I'm not afraid to admit that the Knicks can and most likely, will, lose this series.
