Executives at Warner Bros. studios are re-releasing The Dark Knight next year in a bid to win the Batman movie an Academy Award.


Bosses at the studio are planning to restore the Christian Bale-starring blockbuster to several U.S. Imax venues in January to coincide with Oscar voting season.


It is currently uncertain if the film will reappear in regular theatres as well.
A studio insider tells the Hollywood Reporter, "It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people."

I also heard that they are re-releasing to so that they can hit a billion dollars worlwide, right now, it stands at $996,465,447.

The Beverly Hills Cop star, 47, has been signed up by British director CHRISTOPHER NOLAN to reprise the role played by JIM CARREY in 1995’s Batman Forever.

The surprise move follows speculation linking Pirates of the Caribbean star JOHNNY DEPP to the part.

The film, set for a 2010 release, is being developed under the working title Gotham.

Execs have also signed up rising Transformers star SHIA LABEOUF, 22, to play Robin.

CHRISTIAN BALE will return as Bruce Wayne, while MICHAEL CAINE will again play Bruce’s assistant Alfred.

Meanwhile, Brit RACHEL WEISZ is said to be up for the Catwoman role.

Insiders also revealed to The Sun the flick will end on a cliffhanger over whether Batman survives a blast at Wayne Towers.

Nolan had been tight-lipped about the future of the Batman films after being rocked by the January death of HEATH LEDGER — tipped to receive a posthumous Oscar for his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight.

A film insider said: “Chris wasn’t sure if he wanted to do another movie but as soon as he decided to, he got the wheels in motion.

“Eddie’s a fantastic addition. Everyone’s excited to see what he does as the Riddler.”

A representative for Eddie Murphy's denied the actor will take on the role of The Riddler in a new Batman movie.

Earlier this week a British tabloid newspaper claimed the Beverly Hills Cop star would take on the villainous quizmaster character in the latest outing in the Caped Crusader franchise.

The part was made famous by Jim Carrey in 1995's Batman Forever.

And the publication also suggested actor Shia Labeouf would play young crimefighter Robin, alongside returning Batman Christian Bale.

But Murphy's representative has refuted the claims, telling Access Hollywood the reports are "not true".

The movie, tentatively titled Gotham, is slated for a 2010 release.

the Batman: TAS Riddler was a quiet, reserved guy, but a criminal mastermind worthy of being a Batman villain. Ditto for the comic Riddler (see: Batman "HUSH")

Murphy would do alright, but as OptionZero mentioned, in HUSH, Riddler > everyone. SO HARD.

I got my copy the other day.. Love the movie watch it all the time

on the other hand.. I dont think Murphy fit the "dark" theme that Nolan is doing. I wanted to see Two-face in the next movie, but dont think that is going to happen. I searched this along time ago, they wanted Joker again for the 3rd movie, but as u can see it wont be Heath. So nolan is thinking about doing a Riddler. Jim Carey sucked the first time, but I think he can pull it off a second time.. lol FTW!

yea i know im late, but just saw it the other day. definately worth the wait. but i definately need to go see it in IMAX when its re-released. one around me was sold out for forever and like a month in advance on fandango.
