Not if the car is registered at a legitimate address in the other state. I've been in Michigan for 3 years on NC plates because I still own and rent out my place back in NC. My step brother is doing the same thing on NC plates in San Diego right now, hes been there for 5 years. Hes been pulled over numerous times and the cops always give him a hard time about it, but he legally owns property back in NC and has that as his primary residence even though its only an empty lot.

yeah, having out of state plates is legal as long as ou can prove you have dual residency in that state. (live there at least half of the year) 'Proof' can be utilities in your name or a deed to a house, etc. Even in CA... Yay loopholes.

Then you should know the laws. Because if someone is pulled over and provides a California drivers licence, and insurance from ???? in a car registered from out of state, an officer might let you go once. But best believe if you are caught again, trouble will be had.
Especially if you are trying to drive a car that is clearly violating road laws. Quote:
All these loopholes people try to make because they can't afford a DD or what?

Running around with out of state registration is like running around with a modified car, sure some might get lucky, but it is essentially playing with fire.

Actually read into it more, there are acceptions for students as well as those that are still residence of another state, this would mean your license, registration, and insurance would all be from the state of your primary residence. State law NEVER trumps federal law, and fed law states your primary state of residence is where you must have your vehicle registered and your license must be issued from the same. My previous employer had several of us on projects all over the country for much longer than 3 weeks, and several of us were in different areas of California, and NONE of us had to change anything. You guys are all pointing out laws that apply to people that move to California and become residence, I'm talking about people that leave homes and families behind in other states and go to California for work, school, or because of military orders.

I'm from Maryland, have an md drivers license, and am stationed in San Francisco. I am doing nothing illegal in any sense of the word. Therefore this argument is irrelevant to this thread.
So, please continue posting pics of two tones and save the arguments for your legal classes. |
