i had to remove my sway bar for who knows what reason,....but figured id try it without it.....and with both daily driving and a couple track days,...cant tell ya I noticed a difference really.....lol

i threw it back on, and still didnt notice much. So either im not that intune with my car,. or my set up isnt 'advanced' enough for it to matter yet

That was my thought but apparently couple here have made it sound like some sort of technique. It just prolongs the car from being in gear putting power down.

as hamburg said, the front will be able to grip more without a sway bar. grip drivers do the opposite of what we do, they may take off the rear so that it grips more there

what this means is if you enter all nasty-like, where you would normally have lower traction, the absence of a sway bar will allow the front tires to hug the road more independently

Just keep the stock front swaybar. Chances are the end link bushings are so old that it does not do anything suspension-wise, but it makes for a great oil pan protector.

If you're really looking to get the most out of a setup, soft spring rates with an adjustable sway bar front and rear are where it's at.

Especially if you have a good bit of steering angle and power, You can fine tune the car with the sway bars.

Adjust your sidebite, how much angle you can pull at a certain speed, all sorts of things, I'd highly recommend investing in a set of adjustable sway bars.

Obviously it's all a mix between dampening, tire, tire pressure, spring rates, and sway bars, but the cars going the fastest with the most angle retain sway bar, invest in the adjustability, and have pretty soft spring rates.


And Conrad, if you can't feel a difference, it's probably a mix between your coilovers, your bushings, and that stock sway. I wouldn't worry about your driving, or not feeling the car, you've been driving long enough to notice a difference. If you don't immediately feel it, something is up.

With a front sway you are going to get less body roll, which means less understeer, and when tuned right, means a good amount of front grip. There are lots of other factors too!

what if you adjust the sway bar one side differently than the other?
will that mean you get understeer one direction and oversteer the other?

^ awesome thorough info!

im trying to fine tune my set up,. but going to the extreme in either direction seems to be the only way i feel the differences, and then just work off that.

If you adjust the sway bar on one side and not the other, it doesn't affect one side differently than the other, all you're doing is changing the overall stiffness in the sway bar.

Has anyone ran the Hankook Ventus V12 tires out back? I am still on the look out for a replacement for the Ventus HRIIs I ran last year. They lasted so long and were so consistent, I'd like to get something similar, I'm pissed they don't make them anymore.

I've searched google as well as sparsely throughout this thread, so /flamesuit on.
My setup:
S14
-KA24DE mystery mileage, but hasn't given me any issues burns a little oil , no noises. AEM intake..lol
-OEM Exedy clutch with decent life left
-mystery diff, I've yet to try a burn out and I keep on getting told different things from people who've driven my car
-Z32 brakes all around (EBC GD rotors + Hawk HP+ pads) w/working e-brake. SS lines.
-doing solid diff and subframe bushings this season
-OEM 16" wheels, good condition Firestone Firehawks up front, some beat up almost dead tires in the rear
-some 11 yr old Tein coils, rears are blown or seized, rear is mad bouncy.
my question: will I be able to learn to drift on the track?

I understand there will be countless spin outs, and I can play with tire pressures.
which leads to another question, portable tire pumps??
I've tried a few that I got for free and they shat on me lol.

Yes. Drive the piss out of it like you don't care what happens. You'll learn.

The best thing for me when I was learning was doing ride-alongs with more experienced drivers, then trying to copy them.

You dont need to play with air pressures. Just set the front to factory and air the rear up to A BILLION (like 55). Release air for more grip as you get better.

And yes, portable tire pumps are boss. The only reason I dont have one is because my friend does lol.

overkill or not? i'll prolly go ahead and buy it regardless but just want some input

is having too grippy of front tires a bad thing? i would assume not unless im doing some crazy 4-wheel drifting but im not

Ive 2 pairs of 225/45/17 Heat Cycled but still very meaty AO48's on the Front and its my most favorite setup to date. Had 235 N3000's out back. Clutch kicks weren't mandatory. Just a quick jerk of the wheel and I would he sideways. I'm sure the 7/6 springs play a big part in that.

I'm also going for a pair of 205/50 AD08's soon. Hoping to get the feel of that grip I had without paying the price for them.

I remember the first time I put tar Specs on the front of my car.
WHOA. it was so weird.
I think that I slipped the front tires a lot because of my entry style, so when I got the brand new Star Specs, they were NOT interested in slipping at all.

yeah I went from Federal 595 RS to 595 SS, then to Star specs, and then tried Nankang NS 2. its amazing how different they were. I enjoy the cheaper front tires for normal drifting. the 4wheel slide is pretty fun, but no bueno for tandem...need that front grip to have a fine line ;D

I really liked them. I probably prefer those over the Star Specs for drifting. the Star specs had to be heated up a little before getting good front grip. Reminded me of the Hankook RS-2's.

I'm actually buying my first Azenis 615k's here shortly. Pretty excited to run them on the front. Heard great things from the Falken bros.

Yeah that's what I read. The Auto-X guys like the RS's cause there sticky from the get go. Hows the Treadlife?

I would go with the Z1's or 615's but I wanted specifically a 205/50/17 so that only left me with the AD08's being affordable.

I don't know, I tend to wear through tires because I daily drove the car with -5 degrees of camber. lol. Last a year worth of daily/track use.

RS3's are excellent. I drove my buddy's wrx at an autox on 255 rs3's all around and the thing had grip for days.
