Damn man I am sorry to hear that, at least you know what was causing the issues. I am sure the rotors are fine, you may just have to have them turned. Hope you paid through PayPal and or the seller is willing to work with you.

Well I got the correct sized rotors in yesterday.
Before I wrapped things up last weekend I swapped the pads with the wear indicator to the back sides of the calipers so I am no longer scoring a ring into the rotor on the drivers side. I had an hour between getting home and when I had to leave for class so I started right away throwing on the new rotors. It took me about 35 minutes which I thought was alright so I was pretty excited, like yeahhh Im going to get to drive my 240 tonight for the first time in like 2 months. As Im pulling out of the parking spot, when I turn the wheel I definitely feel/hear the tires rubbing, I guess my weight is just enough to drop it too far -- ohh well, guess Ill have to work on relocating that body harness, hammering up that metal lip, and renting the fender roller again and actually using it this time. I go to park in a different spot. Step on the brakes. Nothing lol. Before I had a chance to grab my e-brake I was up and over the parking spot block thing. Fffffffffffff. Cracked my SE lip and tore it right off. After I finished cursing myself mentally I pumped the brakes a few times and it got some feeling back. I did a couple "reverse - stop - forward - stop"s and the brakes seemed to be working alright but I didnt want to do a more thorough test and risk slicing up my brand new tires. I feel pretty stupid sometimes. Anyone else have this many issues with their car? EDIT: Picking up kouki skirts tomorrow Ordered some kouki rear valances yesterday Moving right along! Still waiting on my tomei turbo outlet, ordered it around 02/13 from enjuku and they said back-ordered for 3-4 weeks................................ |

Ive neglected my build for some time due to being so busy with work and the end of the semester. This was my last week of class so I finally got a little bit done.
We pulled my exhaust off in preparation of pulling the engine. I thought it sounded cool with just an open downpipe so I took this stupid little video Installed the flywheel Removing the pilot bearing/bushing was a real pain in the ass. The method we used was packing the area with lithium grease and using something like a socket extension as a plunger to create hydraulic pressure to actually "press" it out. It took a while but it finally started coming out enough to grab it with some pliers. It broke a bit, but we got it out. After that, got the clutch installed. Will need to insert this picture later as I forgot to snap one. I got in my turbo outlet that I had been waiting on. Ordered on 02/12 and came in on 05/06 . The new Tomei outlet, its pretty sick!! Picked up this vacuum manifold So my buddy and I started getting the KA ready to pull out. Unfortunately one of the motor mount nuts rounded so we had to drill a hole in it and use a BFScrewdriver as a punch and hammer it off. Around 1am last night is when the motor came out.. Im sure my neighbors were like wtf is going on out there |

I swear I spend more time looking at and buying parts than I do working on this thing.
Anyways, I forgot to put up the clutch installed photo turbo outlet installed Picked up this tomei S fuel pressure reg. I couldnt rationalize the $40 for the tomei gauge and cheaped out on the $9 circuit sports turbo lines ran and i just made a slightly ridiculous and unnecessary purchase today, Ill give you a hint: aaand, guess who got a transmission full of fluid?? lol woops.. |

Thanks buddy. I do have some "cheap" parts, Isis turbo manifold and control arms, varrstoen wheels. Obviously I would love to get the real deal for everything but the budget doesnt always accommodate |

Thanks man, they're actually the Isis lines. I'm not a huge fan of the bright red and blue AN fittings on most lines so I chose these due to the black lines and fittings

As you can see from the picture below, I was all chained up, ready to connect the transmission and drop the motor in this weekend. However, forgot the transmission dust shield which I guess cant be slipped on. So here I had to pull the clutch and flywheel off: I got the shield on and flywheel on but got tired, maybe tomorrow or next weekend it will go in |

well done for undertaking such a big job when you didn't have any previous experience with engines. You're brave. A couple of fuckups are expected and encouraged (that's how you will learn he he). i too agree with previous guys, i'm against s15 front ends on other cars, and plastidipping and happy colours on wheels...but it's your car in the end. keep up the good work, nice thread.

JBB's redtop s14 build
Thanks guys I appreciate it. These comments keep me going lol. I was so close to actually installing the engine. Unfortunately, while torquing my flywheel bolts this weekend, I snapped 2 of them. Either my torque wrench was off (I had it set to 95) or the bolts were just old and stretched.
I ordered some arp bolts and a beam style torque wrench so maybe I'll get them drilled out this next weekend and continue moving forward ImageUploadedByTapatalk1405374195.743155.jpg Last edited by JBB; 07-14-2014 at 03:43 PM.. Reason: added picture |

You're not too far from me. If you ever need a hand, or need some help, hit me up. I'd be more than happy to help. I'm getting ready to do a pretty thorough over haul on my S13 and my SR. Keep up the good work, and don't let all the little problems get you down.
These cars/motors are amazing fun, and the good definitely out weigh the bad.

Thanks man, I appreciate it and might have to take you up on that offer. I haven't made any progress since the snapped flywheel bolts; I kind of lost interest and shifted my attention to other hobbies. It sucks because I am so close lol
Edit: Also, being banned for 1 month for linking someone to goatse also assisted in losing my interest as I wasnt browsing the forum on my breaks at work every day |

Its been a while
I was super disheartened with the whole broken flywheel bolt situation. Mainly because I dealt with a broken bolt in the cylinder head before and when I tried to extract it, the extractor broke off and it caused a trip to the machine shop with a decent bill for the work. Anyways, I had been part of an 80 person layoff Oct. 10th and had a some free time while trying to look for a new job. My friend helped remove the flywheel and 1 of the 2 broken bolts was sticking out enough for us to grab it with some pliers and work it out The 2nd one, unfortunately, was even with the crank and we weren't able to wiggle it out. My buddy punched it as close to center as he could (there was a bur on the bolt and I didn't have anything small enough to sand it off) and started to drill on it but my drill batteries were dead. The next day, after charging all night, I got to work on the broken bolt. I was using left handed drill bits starting with the smallest sizes that I had and working up, hoping that they would eventually "bite" and start to twist it out. No luck. The hole that I was drilling was getting pretty large and I ran a 10/32 tap through it real quick and toyed with the idea of jbwelding or threadlocking a bolt inside of it and loosening it that way. I was about to give up for the day and decided to tap a rather large extractor in and twist it with a crescent wrench. Sure enough, the large size of the extractor must have provided enough grab and torque to move the bolt and it came right out. Later that week, I got a hand from my friend again. We threw the tranny dust shield on, got the flywheel torqued back down with the ARP bolts, torqued on the clutch, and bolted up the transmission and starter. Not much left before putting the engine in the car actually. I bought an AC adapter kit from enjuku 2 years ago and went to bolt it up -- it did not line up at all. I dont know if they sent me the blacktop adapter plates or what but this is the second thing Ive bought from them that hasnt fit so I am officially done doing business with them. (If you recall earlier in my thread, I purchased a circuit sports turbo elbow from them and the mounting holes were way off. I inquired about sending it back for some kind of credit towards a new elbow and they said that they would look into it and get back to me -- they never did.) I have now ordered a Cody Ace adapter kit and it should be here by Friday. After thats on I should be ready to install. Then I just need to do my harness and some odds and ends (battery relocate, fuel pump install, intercooler piping holes cut). I dont recall posting this but I got a carbon fiber coil pack cover and a gold oil cap with a fake carbon fiber sticker on it lol. I still need to make it to the powder coater for my valve cover but I am a little broke at the moment. More updates soon, hopefully! |
