Thanks for the reply, Bill. Do you work on other 240s in your shop?

This thread inspired me. I spent the past few days scraping away the tar patches and prep the surfaces for welding. I now have 1 whole square foot of clean metal. Many more square feet to go

I dont know a whole lot about what makes a roll cage good or bad. I have been watching them build this car for quite a while. Someone posted a link to there website and every few months he posts a new vid online of all the work. Watching the car transform is awsome. They do some amazing fab work. IMO anyways... heres the link. Weather you liek the cage or not I can gaurentee you will liek the rest of the work. Right click and save as is the best way to veiw the vids but they will stream also...

http://www.voodoo-people.com/~daz/mull/wmv/

hopefully noone has psoted this link on ehre already.. but yea the editing in the vids is cool too.

enjoy,

James

oh yea and once Dan at DGR makes some progress on my dime I will ahe some pics to add as well. I cant wait.

the part that makes the above cage good or bad....is the dash bar, door bars, and dash bar support, no main hoop diagonal, and no harness bar. I didntlook to intesnly at it, but those are the things that stand out hte most as not legal, or confusing.

on the plus side, it ties into the front struts, and fits very snugly everywhere else, and all the welds look good cleanand strong.

i will bring my cage through the fire wall to the front struts, use NASCAR door bars or an x-brace when i complete my cage next year, for now my 4pnt is sufficient.

i completely forgot about this thread

I have a bolt in 7pt cage
I didnt want to go weld in, becuase im sure ill be taking it out next year for a weld in. I just wanted something now.
Plus i liek to take the front bars out for DD and the rear crossbar for the track trip so i can fit more stuff in my car. Its hard to fit 6 wheels, a 10x10 tent, a few bags and other crap in the back of a 180
But ill go weld in with removable parts in certain places.and i got it from up gargae for 200 bucks cause it had no bolts

ROFL, if you can't look at that cage and be able to tell its a total asspile, you don't need to be posting in this thread.

super rofl at dash bar "hey, this thing will be stronger if we cut it in two and put a bend in it right?"
"dunno man, lets do it."

I do not condone the cage above. With that said, it looks like the dash bar is solely there for more stiffening, many org. (including D1, FD etc) don't even require any dash bar at all. And that style of door bar is relatively common.

just my opinion, but that cage wont be very safe padded or not, the front down bars have too many bends, not going to do anything in any type of roll situation. No diagonal bar or harness bar on the main hoop either..yeesh. Good luck with it tho.

i love my S21 cage
might not bge the greatest
but im drifting in 3rd gear on open course
imight flip but im not rolling down Mt. Whitney or Everest
people make it liek if u dont have cage..YOU WILL DIE

i got few vids of people flipping with Cusco/S21 cages and walking away. and some crazy crashes

if i was into road racing at 160mph i would get something else but i got a bolt in just to appease the faggot rule makers.

mine looks like yokota's but with white padding
wee

sorry guys safety is my #1 priority, spare no expense when your at high speeds. I do roadrace and have speeds close to 160 at certain courses, if anythgin goes wrong at a road course, i woud liek to be protected and have faith in my car to protect me. I realize some people just want to squeez by and get through tech inspection, juts not my style, i have seen more than enough crashs at the track to know how small mistakes and high speed dont end up well, a good rollcage can save yoru life even in a front end accident. I am not saying anyone will automatically die, btu the rollcage is only neccessary for that one time, that one single time something goes terrible awry, and i personally would liek to walk away from an accident broke because i spent he money on a good cage ratehr then with broken bones because i wanted to save money and be JDmtyte.

i do realize this forum is mosty drifting oriented and most people are trying to save a $, or ust do teh minimum to egtby tech inspection, (ive seen teh cars at events and shops) and extreme safety does indeed cost some $, but it wort the money u save on gettin stupid things checked out at the hospital with repeat visits.

The Cusco and Safety 21 cages shown weren't designed to be "roll cages". They are a roll bar with the front A-pillar bars added more for stiffness than anything. I haven't seen a huge amount of drifting but with the high levels of lateral grip and the fact that you are already scrubbing off speed most of the time makes me wonder why they mandate more than a 4 point roll bar. It doesn't look like there are, or would be concern for any kind of major "off".

If anyone has seen a Pug 307 WRC, it is one of the most extensive cages ever built due to the fact that it started out as a convertable. I have a good amount of WRC and Group N cage photos somewhere. I will see if I can get them on my site.

Here are some photos of my Safety 21 half cage in my old R32. With out a doubt no-where near as flash or good as a custom weld in, but did the job for a daily driven 490rwhp streetcar.
