now...remember guys...IF what i tell you guys doesnt happen...dont hate me please...this is just info im getting from people who are employed at nissan and who have access to certain information NONE of us ever get to hear about...and since no official announcement has been made to the public...im not even 100% sure if what im being told is accurate

and believe me...im just as antsy as all of you guys (if not more so because i want a new car SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad) to finally hear an OFFICAL announcement...and whatever small amount of info i can eek from nissan is very exciting to me

i ran into someone who works for nissan (i will not talk about what he does or mention his name...nor will i mention where i ran into him)...turns out from what he has told me (and he made it clear he wasnt supposed to mention any of this as they dont want the info going public yet)...there IS a new silvia planned for release in the next year...that the car is infact being built on the FM platform...what he didnt know yet was the actual name of the car (nissan hasnt decided on it yet)...he said IT IS rear wheel drive, IT IS four cylinder, IT IS being built on a modified FM platform and IT IS the replacement for the silvia/240sx worldwide

two VERY important peices of info he relayed to me...

1) THERE IS A CONCEPT READY!!!! he didnt say if it was physical or a rendering, but he did say there is a concept...that concept was going to be shown at LA Auto Show BUT, nissan decided at the last minute they didnt want to show it just yet...and it was PURELY based on marketing...the reason being is that they unveiled 3 important cars this year at the show...first being the 370z, second being the G37 convertable (as gay as it looks lol) and third being the CUBE...he said that these were all very important vehicles to be introduced this year and the new silvia/240sx replacement wouldnt have recieved the press and attention nissan wanted it to have...from the way the guy was talking about the car, it sounded as if there was a PHYSICAL concept car they wanted to show

2) THE CAR WILL BE SHOWN IN 2009!!! he told me that nissan has already started planning a event like the follow the Z thing going on around the country currently...by the details i was given it sounds like its going to happen around the same time next year as now (after the unveiling at the LA Auto Show and Tokyo Auto Show)

so my take on all this is...nissan will be having their own press conference within the next 6-9 months CONFIRMING the existance of the new Silvia/240sx replacement due to them pulling out of the Detroit and Chicago Auto Shows...my info at SEMA about the announcements came when they were still planning on attending the shows...but it is HIGHLY understandable about the economy as the reason they pulled out...but that doesnt mean information will cease to be made offical by nissan

the guy told me that nissan HAS been listening to and paying attention to the S chassis community and understands our absolute LUST and DEMAND for a new 240sx in this country...he mentioned nissan is fully aware of what we are looking for in the car and that we will be happy once the car debut's within the next year or so...and nissan plans to push the new Silvia/240sx replacement just as hard and as big as the 370z and the GTR...they know its a flagship car that has a MASSIVE following with the drifting scene and that their market competition from BMW, Toyota, Subaru and Hyundai is tough right now because of all their intro level cars

oh...he also made mention to my (and the rest of autoilluminatis) speculations about the coupe being positioned under the G35/G37 with a smaller V6 and slightly different interior/exterior to go against the BMW 1 series...nissan knows that they need a 1 series fighter hardcore...and the new entry level coupe is the way to do it

theres other details i have not included as i cant remember them all right now lol...but this is now TWO nissan corporate employees that have given me info on the car

he said he didnt know anything about the engine yet other than it being 4 cyl

Dude regardless this is great news. Nissan should get back in the mix and with everyone else around doing so, I don't see why they wouldn't either. I can't wait.

What 4cyl's does Nissan/Renault currently produce?

Yea the MR seems to be the logical choice. There's a 1.6 and a 1.8. I wouldn't doubt seeing a 2.0 version with possibly with or without a turbo.

Calling it a Silvia would be fine, but even a 180sx or 200sx would be fine too. Either way I think the car should be somewhat reminiscent of the 180/240/Silvia, but it's going to have to be a really different car to sell well.

im some how get the feeling it will carry an SX badge....silvia wasnt a world known name...however the SX badge was...and if you look at the naming of the sports cars now...they all share the same names world wide...Z and GTR (though in japan its still called a Fairlady Z...but the emphasis is on the Z part of the title)

I'd prefer SX as well- it makes more sense since thats the name it carried in everywhere but Japan, right?

The only problem was Nissan called that Sentra-based thing a 200sx, but everywhere else the S14 was the 200sx.

Frankly they can put any engine they want in it as long as there's an easy way to swap a VQ in there buahaah

A CQ in theory should be 1-2-3. Hell the car is going to be made on a modified FM platform.

I vote for SX too. 160sx/180sx/200sx whatever works for me.

Good to hear. The 1 series is too heavy and expensive. With Nissan dropping the weight of the 3X0Z series, I imagine this 240 replacement will be light-ish too. I'm really curious what the styling will be...personally, I feel like NIssan currently has some good styling elements, but each car just doesn't come together. The Altima coupe has a good looking rear, but the rest is meh...the new Maxima looked super aggressive at a glance when I saw one in person, but then as I looked closer it just looked odd. At any rate, an affordable RWD coupe will be cool. I hope it's pretty stiff and has a decent fundamental suspension design, and makes extra heavy stuff options so every car isn't stuck with a sunroof and heavy stereo.

So Nissan's back in for Chi auto show? Damnit, I might have to actually go now. Last year I went and it was disgustingly cold, probably in the single digits *F. My tire was frozen in a puddle of ice and i had to dump the clutch to get it out, and my clutch pedal was coming up really slowly, like there was something frozen in the MC.

I think it would actually use a VQ35. It'll further separate it from it's Nissan cousin and fit better in Inititi's line-up.

a VQ eh, as i said before, I would think if it was for competition with the 1 series beamer it would be boosted instead of NA.

But at the same time, I think having a boosted V6 on the bottom end of the infiniti line, would eat sales of the 370Z

im going to say look for it being powered by the VQ25de from the entry level skylines in japan...its still a V6...just smaller displacement

I'm more excited about the potential of a G20 size Infiniti sedan. Hopefully this economy pics up sooner then later.
