I really enjoyed ninja scroll, some great classical themes represented in that film if you can pick them up. I really disagree with your soft porn assessment.
Yeah I am like 4 episodes into initial d but I keep falling asleep. I really prefer movies to series, unless its berserk or soemthing equally engaging.

a fresh anime thread
it's been a LONG time since i had Viz catalogs coming to my house and traded bootleg tapes of Ranma in the mail because the real ones were like 30 bucks each.
i saw that NGE thread and realized i had never watched Evangelion. i've now watched the first 13 episodes and plan on finishing the series in short order. my buddy Rob, who taught English in Japan for a year and can't stop jerking off to RPG's and bubble tea, for whatever reason recommended i watch Air Gear. so i watched a few episodes, and man, it's shitty. i think he likes it because it has nudity, and he's a conservative christian who won't go to the titty bar with us. cliffs: Evangelion = this is really old and i'm just now watching it, wtf Air Gear = this is new and it's really shitty, but has boobs I also keep noticing the kids what with the cat-ear hoodies and the body odor talking about something called Fooly Cooly, which i've found has six episodes, so i'll probably crank through that. has anyone watched Gunsmith Cats? this is another show that i somehow missed when it was new. you know what? i don't think i ever even finished Trigun. and for that matter, i've never seen an episode of Cowboy Bebop. what other CLASSIC series have i missed? do not say Tenchi, because that shit is gay.

I can't get into a lot of the new stuff. The computer done animation just takes away from the feel of the series. Animation/Art/Look is a big part of it to me. The older stuff is usually way better.

i tried to watch Air Gear a few months ago because i randomly picked it off a anime stream site.. yeah i thought it was pretty gay.. Its hard to jump into new series, most of teh plots have been done b4 so they tend to be cookie cutters.
I watched a few episodes of Skip Beat! , wasnt bad.. Teenage girl decides to get into show business as revenge for the guy she liked who eventually dumped her when he got famous. Was pretty cool but than got annoying because she whines too much.

Eureka 7- was pretty cool. Damn near all the airships and mechs in it are named after old school Analog Roland drum machines and synths and its got a whole rave theme running throughout it.
Cowboy Bebop is a total classic Fooly Cooly is by far one of the best short series animes ever done. Trigun was good I also wound up liking Lelouch of the Rebellion and Morbito of course two of my all time favorites are Bleach and Ghost in the Shell.

Ok... on Air Gear... Don't watch it. Read it. The anime is horseshit. The manga is the hot shit.
The hottest anime out right now is Full Metal Achemist: Brotherhood. It's the best thing I've seen in like... a decade. The original Full Metal Alchemist vaguely stuck to the manga up until about halfway thru, then from episode 26 on, it was all filler bullshit and a filler movie. The new FMA show starts with 15 episodes to recap the "true" parts on the original anime and then from there it follows the manga precisely. If you're not watching or reading FMA... you're missing the best thing out. Other woefully underrated shows: Full Metal Panic Black Lagoon Karas Hellsing Ultimate Scryed Read or Die / Read or Dream (watch the OVA before you watch the show) These 2 aren't underrated, but recommended viewing: Samurai Champloo Wangan Midnight (if you liked Initial D) |

YES.
Viewer beware: If you hate hate hate being left hanging at the end of a season, I'd suggest you stay away from Berserk. As soon as I finished the last episode, I yelled, "Holy fuck, I need to buy the second season!" But there is no second season because the guy that made it is ultra focused on the manga... Fuckers. |

Bleach is decent viewing. Naruto is definently better. The problem with Bleach is that it doesn't do well at a adding good story go with all that action. It's like the creator of Bleach kinda throughs in some intrigue and drama as an afterthought. It comes off feeling like a slightly more intelligent DragonBall Z. Gundam... I avoid like the plague. Very few mecha shows are on my recommended viewing list. Most of them just don't bring anything new to the genre. The only mecha shows I recommend are Evangelion, Full Metal Panic and Macross. Fuck yes... Berserk was awesome. I like shows that bitchslap you when you think you know whats going on... Quote:

I also forgot about Samurai Champloo which I thoroughly enjoyed. I don't care what anyone says what I like about Bleach is the whole interplay between Ichigo, Rukia and Orihime that never quite gets resolved. Its like on one hand Ichigo is totally there for Rukia and then you now Orihime secretly loves him, and he is there for her too. Of course call me strange but I favor Rukia. Oh and for shear straight up fucking funny ass shit?Shin Chan

Area 88 - It's from the 80's, but its still really good with a great plot. I dont think its dubbed, but it is subbed. The OVA is in 3 parts and the series is one season.
OVA YouTube - エリア88 Ã¥Å*‡å ´ç‰ˆ Opening. Series YouTube - Area 88 - Opening FLCL - Great series about growing up. The sound tracks kick ass. Inuyasha - Yes it has a huge female following, but the main story arc is top notch. |

I'd start there, that series is the bomb. Since I've been sick for the last 4 days I've gone through half of Death Note, it's pretty cool you could try that.
