The aftermarket exhaust is illegal because it isn't made by nissan for the 240sx.

That is reason enough for the ticket.

Noise is a WHOLE nother illegal exhaust ticket.

Yes, you put your life on the line... but to cops and most people, that means nothing. (not my views by any means)

Cops have the whole power thing and the second you speak back to them they take it personal or something and then they will just go out of their way to make everything hell.

Getting pencil whipped by a cop is no fun for you nor your wallet.

I've been reffed and hassled by cops in EVERY way.

Easiest way is to play cool and listen to what they say.

I'm sure you wouldn't want to end up paying over 1k in tickets.

That could buy you a cheap lil dd or go towards a nice dd. ~_~

Well then what is the whole point of the db rating system thing if anything that isn't made for a car isn't legal anyways? Why not just write everyone up for an aftermarket exhaust? lol

If I could afford to fight the abuse of the system, I would. But I'm a broke and jobless vet, so i'll just back down for now lol

If I got a ref ticket in my sr20 s14. I would swap an ls1 in with all the smog equipment and watch the ref cry with compliance tears.

Incase one makes their stock exhaust louder.

One is a noise ticket, the other is an emissions.

Though catbacks have no real effect on emissions.

Touchè.

But it's the oem exhaust made for nissan by them.

And the cops can give out tickets for anything other than that.

last time i checked when you get a ticket for your exhaust you can go to a carb station or bar i think it is. not 100% sure the name of the palce. but they will check you got a cat. and do a DB test on the exhaust. if it passes they will sertify it and you can go back to the CHP and slap the ticket on their face with the certification. if they don't write it off just wait til court. the judge will.

Well my point in inquiring about all of this is just because I don't want cops taking advantage of their power, at least with me. But at this point, I have to bend over and take it because I'm fucking broke. I just hope the fact that my CEL is on doesn't effect anything when it comes time to get my car inspected by the ref's.

If your CEL is on, then you won't pass smog. Since you won't pass smog, you won't pass ref.

Doesn't matter if nissan put the engine in there for you.

The smog setup isn't the same, nor does an sr even look like a ka.

They use alldata as well as other learnings to check your car with a fine tooth comb.

So that argument is pretty weak.

You WILL fail and it won't be pretty.

I got a quick question. (prob already been covered but ill still ask anyways)

If you get your after market exhaust certified by the ref and a cop pulls you over. Can they still pop your hood? I know they can if you have anything besides stock but if the ref approved the after market exhaust could you possibly get out of poping your hood since its been approved by the ref?

(anyone interested in the process to have a certified aftermarket exhaust by the ref Exhaust/Intake ticket legalization process & FAQ here is the process that my friend had to go through to get it approved.

Yes. But he was cited for having a header and intake which would go under emissions.

But you are right for exh/db tickets.

pay your insurance and make sure your car is registered, and dont run boso pipes on the streets cops never pull over evo's and sti's unless they're driving like dummies or those things are in question.

Not always true.

It sure helps.

But doesn't mean that cops won't pull you over.

All depends on how he's feeling and where/what time you're driving.

I know all too well from experience.

In theory, they shouldn't.

But this is america.

So you'll end up with your hood open.

Either way, no point trying to hide stuff from the cops, more than likely they will find out one way or another.

Refusing to pop your hood just makes you more suspicious.

Also, fyi. If you have a weapon (knife of any sort) or drugs in your car, the cops can legaly search your car.

I cant tell you one time i've ever been pulled over that someone asked to pop my hood since 1999 when I was caught racing...

Stopped driving like a dumbshit and have been left alone since. Your driving record has a lot to do with it too when they look your name up. If you have recent infractions they will probably just dick with you just cause.

I've been pulled over in many different cars and for those times, non were caused due to my driving at these particular times.

I've been pulled over infront of my house in a stock car.

All depends on the cops mood.

They know all too well about cars and modifications.

You use to be able to drive around and not act like an ass.

But now a days it isn't the case.

I know too many people and have had too many experiences to see that just driving normal would fix getting pulled over. Not to mention why would anyone even be doing anything to bring attention to themselves in the first case.

All in all, just buy a DD and don't have to worry about the cops.

SO much easier to deal with in life.

Not to mention saves wear and tear on the car.

All I know is...

When I daily drove my S13 coupe, I got pulled over 4 times in 3 months.

-Once for doing 55 in a 45 on Angeles Crest, let me go with just a tint ticket.
-A week later for tint again in Hollywood (didnt have the previous ticket with me because Im dumb, so got another one)
-Unsafe turn... Apparently taking a left hander at 35 is unsafe even though the car was never in jeopardy of hitting anything and there was nobody else in the intersection and I had a green arrow.
-Pulled me over because he thought my exhaust looked illegal (I just had a 350Z tip on a stock muffler... dumbass).

Once I sold the S13, I got a Jaguar X Type AWD. Its faster, more comfortable, more reliable, and I could be doing 100mph on the freeway while snorting coke off a hooker's ass and cops still dont give a shit about pulling me over.

Long story short. Get a daily driver thats not an S chassis. Then you can build your S chassis any way you want and beat the shit out of it on the track whenever you want. Stay off their radar if you dont want to be fucked with.
