Hm maybe I should go back and rewatch them. Admittedly I was 15-17 at the time.

There's a ton of good dubbed anime but even with great actors it is very hit and miss. Gurren Lagann was fan fucking tastic.

I don't mind dubbed or subbed shows, but I'd much rather spend my time looking at all the details in the animation versus bolting my eyes up and down reading and watching.

I have plenty of time to read subs and still enjoy the the art. Although I do admit my vision would get tired after a while in old days of shitty VHS fansubs. I personally used to avoid shows I knew I'd like until I could find subbed versions. |

Same. It's only an issue at fast paced technical talking scenes...but then I just drag the play bar back and rewatch those 30 seconds. |

This. The only shows I had a little trouble keeping up with the subs, was stuff like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex & whatnot.

Like I said, I can go either way, but I prefer to just listen to the dialogue instead of reading. I can't say I've ever dropped a show because I thought, "OMG these voice actors are terrible!".
Well, except for the dubbed Initial D, but we won't even go there. They completely changed sequences. Now that shit I won't stand for.

That and when they are translating on screen text and/or background verbal at the same time the characters are talking. I noticed this a few times with Knight of Sydonia.

Shows like Bakemonogatari that have quick quirky edits and are dialogue driven with jumping text screens... now those are a challenge. |

Corbic rewrite time:
SOA - I wanted to like it. It was enjoyable but at the end it was meh-worthy. Now the hype around Season 2 has me rolling my eyes. If you haven't seen it - stop reading. Spoilers SOA failed to aim for greatness which was ever in it's grasp. First, while the whole "omfg you now look like your real-self" thing was worth a laugh at the 40 year old men playing as girls it was stupid and poorly integrated in the story. Second, I would have made the time in the game last MUCH longer 5-10 years. So long that people actually are growing up in the game and have forgotten reality. Additionally, the game should have worked in 4 cycles, Morning, Afternoon, Evening and Night. Each cycle would be 6 hours and at the end of which enemies would respawn. This could have aloud for some serious time-crutch "OMFG IT WILL BE NIGHT SOON" moments. So ok, we got Kirito and Asuna battling in a hell hole for 10 years and have falling in love and all that crap. The final battle comes with Asuna being killed - I don't care how. As I said, the game resets every six hours, so if you can resurrect a fallen party member before the reset, they will live - if not they die forever. Kirito it's 3 hours till the next shift, it's 4 hours back to town to resurrect and 2 hours to the final boss.... The last time this happen Kirito couldn't make it back in time and that other party he had all died... forever. Kirto makes it to the boss and as the seconds spin down he kills it at 0:00 time change. Everything goes black... and he wakes up. He won the game. 10 years of his life gone. Asuna... dead... But... HOLLY FUCKING INCEPTION BATMAN! While 10 years had gone by in the game for everyone playing only 5 hours actually passed in real life. The game put everyones brains into hyper mode or some made up anime shit. So time elapsed differently. Also, all those people that died for real? Didn't. They woke up at the same time everyone else did. So for some, only a few days past, others years, some almost to the end... they all wake up at the same time. It was all part of the game. No mad scientist foul play. This is when shit gets REAL. We now get to watch the deep psychological trauma unfold. What basically happened overnight forever changed all 10k people. The husband that murdered his wife... oh you bet she didn't forget that. Real grudges and real murders are happen all across japan as people are unable to separate what happen in the game from real life. Kirito is also desperate to find Asuna, his true love... his wife of 8 years. A year goes by. His obsession with finding Asuna is driving him nuts. His sister has disappeared into the VR games which are now corrected for real time experience. Finally Kirito makes contact with Asuna online and they agree to meet. BECAUSE NO HOT GIRL EVER BETA TESTED A MMORPG. Asuna shows up dressed as a girl and confesses to being a guy... Kirito punches Asuna in a rage and gets all pissed off as Asuna cries and tries to explain. Kirito then runs home and is all dramatic and decides to drown his sorrows in the new Elven VR game. He meets the blonde chick... falls in love again and is all happy and normal in the game and miserable in real life. He just wants to disappear into the game forever like the first time. God kicks Kirito in the fucking balls. He finds out Leafa is his own sister (she doesn't know). He is then forced to contact Asuna... because thats the only person he ever felt so connected and honest with. His best-friend of 10 years. Kiriot then tells Suguha he knows she's Leafa and he is the game char. She tells him she already knows... and BTW your Adopted so it's cool. Asuna eats a bunch of pills and goes into a coma... so now Kirito and Suguha try to reach her/him in the game because the docs be all "he's just given up"... they all become friends and live happily ever after.... after all their still just 15-20 whatever year old kids.... their is plenty of time to work this shit out as they grow up... again, together. IInfinite Stratos - *reads proposed script - beats author to death with it* Seriously? Nothing I bloody hate more than these horrific harem anime with hundreds of girls throwing themselves at some dopy "average" guy who is COMPLETELY OBLIVIOUS OF THEM. No girl ever likes the guy with a million female friends and can't get a hint. |

Yea, I think I'll stick with the original SAO plot, lol. I need to catch up on season 2, the first 2 episodes were interesting. Guns, guns, guns and more guns.
I just hope they don't stomp on the brakes and pull a complete 180 in regards to the world they're living in like season 1. IMO, the original world and plot was much better. I REALLY hated how they changed Asuna from from an almighty ass kicker, into a damsel in distress. Although I must say, I really like how Kirito killed her "fiance" in the game. That shit was brutal! Just finished Kill la Kill and I'm a bit bummed that it's over. Great mix of action and comedy. I'm going to have to check out this Gurren Lagaan since it seems like I can't read about one without seeing the other mentioned.

Ok fourth episode of SOA2 is turning into straight gun porn. Lots a real life guns making an appearance. And some light saber action. Hope this season doesn't let me down!

Holy crap! I knew there would be something beyond 5th Stage, but I didn't know its airing already, let alone a movie & a reboot coming! Thanks! I are excite about anime again! Even though 5th Stage was kinda crappy & the next 86 vs 86 race will make me want to gouge my eyes out, I still wanna know what happens next!

I must say: I enjoyed Initial D - Final Stage alot more than I was expecting to. Especially that last scene as the credits rolled... I read the raw manga, so I knew what happened to the TRD Atlantic motor, but since I never saw the end of the race, I assumed he lost. That last race was pretty fitting. It was also fitting that the last race really showed its attempt to accurately portraying the speed difference between grip & drift. You'd think someone whould have thought of that & used it on Takumi already. Additionally, I think this 5th & Final Stage showed that Keisuke has surpassed Takumi without needing a rematch.

^^^ I still haven't watching it completely through, but the initial browse thru to check the quality seemed pretty damned good once you get past how weird Japanese live action actors act. Seriously. They act all kinds of weird. But if you have not seen the trailer, go watch it. You'll get all kinds of excited for some Hitokiri Battousai action!

Holy crap... I just searched the sequel and it's already out! Came out August 1st!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rurouni...yoto_Taika-hen I'm guessing they're planning a trilogy, ending with Enishi's Jinchuu arc!
