Having see an Genesis Coupe rolling on the road in my neighborhood yesterday, it just reconfirmed my view that its a ugly car. Just not feeling its looks. LOL

If Toyota makes the FT86 a 4wd car it will be a fail in my opinion, for Suburu it makes sense though.
It will also leave the door wide open for Nissan to make a RWD car in the category without direct competition.

In the end as of right now we are seeing renderings and lots of speculation. Give us hard facts Toyota and Suburu.

its 100000000000000 times more than nissan has given any of us who are TRYING to stay loyal to a brand...i could seriously see myself rolling around in the subaru RWD subaru version on some hella flush wheels and being 100% happy =D

I'm readying myself for the Toyota purchase. Unless Nissan comes out with a new SX they can kiss my ass.

That Camaro is hot. I drove one over summer and I could def. see myself driving one. Which is surprising.

The only problem with the new Camaro is on the road it looks rather large. Typical of all the American car retro releases. In effect the Dodge challenger looks a little better in execution. LOL That will probably piss some of you off. hahahaha

I'm digging the new Camaro..I've looked at both it and the Mustang. I like the camaro better, but yeah it is a big car..but I do fit in it nicely (i'm a big guy to begin with). I'm very interested in the Ft-86 though. I'll be buying within the next 2 years so. My only thing with a Chevy is I currently own an older Impala and its a royal peice of shit

I feel like it's the exact opposite. When i see a Challenger it looks like a god damn truck on the road. I seen one driving next to a new Accord (which is overly big now too) and it dwarfed it. The top of the hood came up like a good 4" higher then the Accord's beltline.

This is true. According to edmunds 2010 Base V8 Challenger weighs in 4041lbs, SRT 8 is 4132lbs compared to the charger, at 3860lbs

Yes, Small Cars Can Be Lovable - Forbes.com
Quote:
Yes, Small Cars Can Be Lovable
Jerry Flint, 11.28.09, 06:00 AM EST
Small cars are a hard sell, but build one with the right feel and emotion, and buyers will respond.

We know small cars are a hard sell for Americans. Their mileage might be great but they can be uncomfortable or unpleasant to drive. But there is an exception: lovable small cars.
good article on a segment of the current market that is totally lacking domestically. he raises a great point about the original 2,500lb mustang that is dead on to what many of the arguments in this thread are about

Quote:
One problem with small cars in America is that, like Americans, they grow. The first Mustang was slim, but in seven years it grew eight inches longer, six inches wider and put on almost 600 pounds. Sales never matched the early years again.

"What happened to the Mustang market?" Lee Iacocca later asked. "It didn't go anywhere. It's still there." The company walked away, he said. The buyers are still out there, "still waiting for a good little car."
hopefully carmakers will start wise up and stop making fat ass cars...

on another note, a lightweight limited production camaro needs to happen. that car is currently too fat.. (though that blue one a few posts up looks awesome) strip out as much interior as possible.. cover exposed interior metal with some 2.7 rs style felt trim.. two lightweight bucket seats, radio/ac delete.. lightweight hood/trunk/wheels.. etc.. throw in a 4pt in back.. suspension.. throw in a bunch of optional suspension bits... hell if they did this to a V6 version a-la shelby terilinga v6 mustang.. it would be an awesome car.. and like the early 90s porsche rs america, charge LESSS than a comprably fat stock camaro

^ Indeed that would be an awesome camaro but business wise it doesn't make sense.

Ex: you are a t-shirt maker. You make one kind of tee that you feel will sell really well to group A. Group A consist of 200 people. One day a delegate from group B comes to you and ask you to make them a different kind of shirt. Making a different shirt would require you to change your shirt making setup, which costs money, and would slow down the production of shirts for group A. Group B is 20 people. You don't know how many people out of either group will actually buy shirts.

Now what would you do?

Stick with group A until financially I could work with group B and not have it derail things with group A. Since group A is such a larger group 200 vs 20. Odds are with you that more people in group A are going to buy.

I dunno. Nissan is an established company though. The same concept still applies but not as strictly. I mean in the case of a small business a bad decision could mean disaster and then end of the company. That would not be the case with Nissan.

They are being too lax IMO.

I think the cube serves as a good example. Loo how much longer the Xb before Nissan came out with the cube. They could have the plan on the shelf waiting to see how the genesis and the toyobaru does in sales.

actually...nissan had been talking about bringing the cube here since 2003 i believe...they just played the waiting game and completely missed the "box" craze

the denki cube (2nd gen) was awesome...3rd gen cube...eh...its ok...denki cube was available in AWD i believe as well

all i can say for nissan now the toyobaru is offical and being salivated over...nissans got a lot of catching up to do...the toyobaru is going to take the entry level world by storm...ESPECIALLY a RWD, 4 cyl $20,000 TOYOTA...not hyundai...the FT86 is going to MOD CRAZY!!! count on it being ALL OVER SEMA when its released...its a big thorn that nissan is going to HAVE to address because its going to lose a lot of long time customers to toyota (im one of them...already saving for the car) simply because nissan failed to give a DESPERATE group of car people a new car (meaning silvia people a new silvia)...basically theyre alienating 2-3 generations of S chassis enthusiasts and fans

I agree. I'm over Nissan coming out with a successor to our wonderful car.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nissan had something ready to show that they weren't quit as happy with after seeing the FT86. I mean, they REALLY hit the nail on the head on what a small RWD coupe should look like in this generation of cars. The Urge (while I didn't mind it, but I wasn't in love with it. Just more in love with what it may have meant) was WAAAAAY off base in comparison.

I admit, I didn't know the cube was in planning already during that time. I have to agree on the tired of waiting. I am gearing up for the suby FT86 since I will (hopefully) be long since employed.

Looks like Ford ups the ante with the 2011 V6 model. Expected given what the Camaro offered.

Ford Mustang V6 (2011) with pictures and wallpapers

With all these 300+ relatively affordable RWD cars out or coming out (Genesis,v6 Camaro,v6 Mustang) and the Toyobarus the RWD coupe market will be pretty saturated by the time a 240 replacement comes out.

The market is great right now if you're a fan of the muscle cars. The Camaro and Mustang are such good cars for the price.

I agree that the market may be a little saturated with a Genesis, FT86, and Suby Version. Plus Mazda IIRC has confirmed they are bringing back the RX7. Nissan just needs to step up.

When the FT86 comes out the RWD market will come full circle for me price wise. You'd be able to get a fun RWD car from $20,000 on up.

So basically all the major manufacturer will have a economically priced RWD car except Honda and Nissan. Hm interesting.

Pretty much. Also, I see nothing from Audi, VW, or Kia. And I DO NOT expect Honda to have another inexpensive (if you considered the S2000 inexpensive) RWD. For a LOOOOONG time. Seriously. The dude that is in charge now has axed plans for Acura's RWD V8 platform. They seem intent on not competing in that market any longer. Fine with me.

I really just don't see Nissan passing the opportunity up.

The current Cube is the third generation. They've been selling them in Japan since 1998. Nissan seriously considered bringing the 2nd gen over, but I don't think there was a Left-hand drive variant, so they decided to wait until the 3rd gen when they could design it from the ground up as LH or RH drive.

Toyota MR2 a hybrid rumor update...

Rumormill: Toyota MR2 to be reborn with hybrid power — Autoblog

I always liked the 90s MR2, it had an exotic look to it like a mini Ferrari. To think in the old days toyota had 3 sport coupes/cars available (Celica, MR2, Supra)!
