been playing with these
gotta close look at the rocket rabbit frs' taillights during fatlace's paddock sale. pretty shnazzy! I'm still trying to wrap my head around how it was put together! i want to assume it's a custom housing inside. but it could also just be a board with the led reflectors placed in there, and holes cut in the board to let the glowing bar thing to go out and go to its shape, then back inside behind the board, where there are LEDs lighting it up. either way this was done reeallllyyyy well! supposedly fixed up by some shop in japan. |

Morimoto Minis in my S14 .... much better than the OEM Halogen projectors... clean cutoff and non blinding to other drivers... i see no problem with them. Good bang for your buck.

I can't imagine how poor the output is of minis behind the thick oem glass lenses. Get some headlight lenses from aftermarket headlights and swap 'em on at least.

Output is just fine.... idk how you think the oem clear glass could affect light output that much?... It was designed around a projected halogen beam and is (relatively) clear and uniform where the projector is. If it was behind a fluted lens i could see your point... but its a headlight... its designed to allow light to pass through it with minimal affects. Yes... it could be better in another set... but its is literally 1000000000x better than the halogen projector. Im not saying this setup is uber baller or anything... but it is functional and only cost me $170 bucks in parts.

I've done half a dozen kouki retrofits, the glass lens really does have a huge negative affect on the intensity and where the light is dispersed as well. It took several iterations of my own personal retrofits to realize this and I went so far as to make my own clear lenses before the vertex lights existed. It's not a must, but well worth the investment to swap the lenses IMO.

remove the back screws ..
then you'll bake it...in my case I used a heat gun you heat it all the way around not so much on the lenses though... gently pry it out should be able to push them out from behind if it starts getting too difficult just warm up the glue again |

For the glowing bars, it's probably a chunk of acrylic that got sanded a bit.
BMW uses that sort of magic in their taillights. Sand it down, shine an LED through it, and it glows. |

Heres some led highbeams I made up for my 32, using a couple xmlt60's at the moment and maybe upgrade to something a little brighter later on down the track.
