Question on 2 piece Starform wheels.

Picked a set up recently. Going to get the faces refinished and was also looking to get them re-lipped as well. I have an email into Wheelflip for a quote. Curious to see if anyone knows if the VR wheel lips would work on these if I had someone local split them? They are 36 hole face/lip, just not sure if everything would line up porperly. If the bolt diameter would be the same, etc.

If the lips would work, would they be safe to reassemble as a 3 piece and seal the inner barrel and lip with silicone? Basically convert them from 2 to 3.

These look like 3 piece to me. The barrel and lip are not welded it doesn't look like.

Unless if the face is same piece as barrel and lip goes on top (like RMs) which doesn't look like it either.

The Lip and the barrel are welded, the face will unbolt. However, I took one of the valve stems out and you can see the 2 sections (barrel and lip flange) sandwiched together. So it goes face, lip, barrel.

I want to just have someone cut the weld on a lathe or something, get new lips and reassemble as a 3 piece. Is this a plausible scenario?

Has it been done before with success? Yes. You have to know what you're doing as to not compromise the integrity of the metal you're cutting and/or rewelding.

Local dude in my town is selling some work emits for dirt cheap and they are 3 piece. 17" 36 hole lips. Who would be a good company to go through to get custom lips made? Or already have them made.

Working on these. Faces were sent off to powdercoating the other day. OEM specs were 18x7.5 +45 and 18x8.5 +26. Going to be 18x10 +/-0 (4.5" lip), 18x11 +7 (5" lip) Work VS-XX.

Yep. Just rolled front and rears. MAYBE slight pull if needed. But I doubt it.

That's with a 4.5" front and rear lip, so imagine 1/2" more poke rear with the 5s.

Cool, thanks for that info.

Do you guys feel that the work 36 hole lips would work on these? I may just suck it up and buy one soon and have one split. Trial and error I guess. Worst case I get the one rewelded.

C4lvin, I'd be more than happy to borrow one of those for a little while! lol jk, they're 18's.

I have a set of BBS LM's that need new bolts and a good cleaning.
After deflating the tire is it safe to remove the center with the tire still on the barrel?
I'm a little affraid the barrel might get oval.

The lip and barrel are 1 piece. Plus, a deflated tire will make T6-6061 aircraft grade aluminum oval because a deflated tire is on it?

I'm twiddling my thumbs waiting for my faces to be powdercoated. That's all I need back and I can start re-assembling them.

^ Those will look good. Question though, on the backside of the faces, did your powdercoater mask off where the bolt holes are? I was always curious if that would affect re-assembly.

Not that I know of. I trust him enough to spray them evenly. Since it's not a sandwich mount wheel and no silicone will be sealing that area, there's really no need to mask it off.

Help Calculate Wheel Offset

I hope this is the right place to post this.

I have a pair of 18x8 +42 inch Racing Harts C2s that i would like to get new outter lips for. the lips are 40 hole lip. Effectivly i want a 9.5 or 10 wide wheel.

Here is a Picture to try and illustrate what size lips i have

Im pretty sure the lips i have now are only 1 inch lips given you are supposed to measure the width of a rim from bead to bead, so the curved edge seen in the pic above shouldnt be measured (please correct me if im wrong)

Again my Wheels are 18x8 +42 as of current

Here are my Calculations (provided i do have a 1 inch lip) If i add a 3 inch lip to my existing face and barrels i will be adding (-24) offset to the wheel which would make my wheels 18x10 +18.

(please correct me if i am wrong)

and 10 wide may be too wide so i was thinking just adding a Lip that is just 1.5 wider or a total of 2.5 wide which would give me 18x9.5 +25.

Any help will be much appreiciated

Thanks!

BTW heres the reason im getting a pair widened, i <3 Cali Freways
