They're good but not the best.

my friend is running the 315/30-18 R888's on his 850WHP supra and still spins in 3rd gear.

Yeah for anything in that HP range (850whp) the only thing that will keep that car planted would be a Bias Ply or maybe a Drag Radial.

Flick....check out the Federal 595RS-R....I have read through some forums that they are the best bang for the buck R-Compound tires when comparing the cost to performance.

So I am pretty set on trying to get something like a 255/50/17 and 275/40/17 tire and was looking at the Federal 595's. I know they run bigger than whats marked on the tire so should I be looking to run a 245/40/17 and 265/40/17? Not sure how close in size the Federal tires are to the actual tire size I am looking to run. Hope this makes sense.

You don't need any spacers in the rear. 265 is probably the most you can get in the rear. This isn't exactly the right thread for you to be asking this question. We arent about low cars stretching tires on wheels to tuck.

Anyone have any pix of a 265/40 tire on a 17x9.5 wheel they can share? I have been googling it but wondering if anyone has something that's not available on google.

Needs a small spacer out back to stop the inner sidewall from rubbing the fender well and the front wells needed a little hammer time to get rid of rub. The springs are much too soft so I'll be upping the spring rates over the winter and stiffening the chassis more to cope (I'm starting to tear spot welds in the front of the car).

More details on your setup?

Offset front and rear?

What width wheels?

Okay here is my setup on my s14 (rolled and pulled accordingly):
Front- 18x9.5+12 w/ 225/40 and -1.6 camber
Rear- 18x10.5+15 w/ 255/35 and -1.5 camber
I personally think that 18s are too big for my taste and I am pretty much maxed out on tire. So I am wanting to move to 17s, is there a reason why not a lot of people run 17s? Would 17x9 + 22 front and 17x9.5 + 20ish rear be adequate to run square tires?

That should be plenty.
A square setup on that should be somewhere in the 245/255 stagger realm.
Front you may run into coilover clearance issues.
Rear should fit no problem.

Te- the only reason you are maxed out on tire is because of the offsets you chose. You could easily run 255's up front on a +20 wheel on an S14.

+1
You wanna use as much clearance as you can on the inside so you know your using all the space under there for that tire.
That 9.5 should be taking a 255 for being square and like jr_ss said with a +20 offset and more camber you can fit a wider tire. -1.6* isn't enough in the front IMO
