lunarbomb....

Post any pics that you think are useless, because you are going to dig through it later trying to reference back to it some time...and plus I want to see an update.

i've only done a few little things recently. i'm kind of in a holding pattern while i wait for parts.

here are the new mounting points for the ARB end links.

and this is the bracket for the handbrake. like the fuel cell and battery supports, this was made from an old bed frame.

this is where i decided to mount the proportioning valve. i need to turn some spacers to get it a little more inboard. the lines will run down the tunnel with everything else. it'll be quite a spectacle if i ever lose a driveshaft.

that's all for now. hopefully i'll have something more exciting to share soon. thanks again for all the positive feedback!

thanks fellas!

i've mostly been doing research lately because it's time to wire the car and i have no idea what i'm doing when it comes to electrical work. i hate it.

i did get some gauges. i went with prosports because they're cheap and i'm pretty broke these days. we'll see how they hold up.

this is the bracket i made to hold the gauges. it's pretty much all i'm doing for a dash.

then i started making my switch panel and kind of a central electrical panel. this panel goes on the firewall and will handle most of the electrical. there will be another one in the trunk to handle the fuel pump, fans and brake/tail lights.

this is a little strap i made to mount the PCM to the firewall. i'm really not sure how well it needs to be isolated from vibration and/or heat so i put some foam under it.

next, i dug into the engine harness and distilled it down to the essentials... i think.

i made a bunch of these little tabs to manage the wiring throughout the car.

i assembled the lines for the hydro and got it plumbed and bled. you can also kind of see how i routed the battery cable and the wires coming from the switch panel.

i'm really hoping to start this thing in the next week or so.

This thing is gonna be sick once it's all said and done. These are the kind of build threads I like seeing

Is the LS basically stock? Or has it been built already?

thanks guys, it's been a lot of work so far. too much work, honestly.

Tony, the LS is completely stock internally. all i did was basic maintenance, seals, etc. the theme of this car is light, reliable and easy to repair. i'm thinking i'll work on power later if need be.

here's a picture of how i braced my tension rod brackets.

thanks man! don't look too closely at those welds though

kind of embarrassing but i'm going to post this up on the off chance it might save someone some frustration. i broke a harmonic damper bolt (crank bolt). i guess it was bound to happen someday.

i suppose i could drill it out or try to easy-out it but... there is a really deep counter bore on the crank... and the inside diameter happens to be very close to a 3/4-16 thread. so i opted to leave the broken bolt in there and just tap the snout. eff that bolt. eff torque-to-yield. this was a really quick, easy and cheap fix.

i used a 3/4-16 taper tap followed by a 3/4-16 bottoming tap. the taper tap helps you start the thread straight. the bottoming tap gets you full depth threads.

here's some mcmaster part numbers:

26035A219 - McMaster-Carr

26035A259 - McMaster-Carr

turned out to be a minor setback but you can bet i was a little upset when it first happened

here's a video of the prosports at startup. i can't imagine anything more calming before a run than having all your gauges scream at you in unison while inducing a seizure. at least you can mute the screams.

that's a minor setback? my man..that bolt is $5 new, it snapped, you now bought two new tools + new hard ware..

pretty stupid if you ask me. But than again..I did buy $30 worth of tools for 1 stripped hole(M8x1.25)...

I've been telling my friend to mute his gauges(he's also running prosport gauges from my recommendations for their price and they just kind of..work all the time, had mine since 08 and still working good) since early last year..

he refuses and instead embraces the loudness.

weird friend I have.

Jesus christ, it's like you're building a spaceship. Only you're more serious about it.

Considering how balls to the wall you've done everything, have you considered if it'd be possible to build a second small tunnel or two, to house your various plumbing?

mechanicalmoron, i can't help it. fun is serious business! the dedicated plumbing tunnel idea is a good one though. in fact i think there's something similar mentioned in the FD rules?

stroked_jz, lol, i'd love to work at a shop or even open one but people keep telling me there's no money in it.

mad-ass, did you just call me stupid?! haha

for lack of any real updates to share, here's my hood! i can't wait to start doing all the aero and stuff.

I dont know about all that mess. I think with the abilities you have shown in this thread, matched with some tuning capabilities(if you know how), you would be a good addition to anyones shop. The quality here is just ridonkulous.

so happy. first try:

i modified the engine harness and completely scratch built the chassis harness myself. there are zero OEM wires in the car. honestly, i was shocked when it started.

after i got the car running i was super motivated to finish it. i decided to sell my daily and use the cash to accelerate the build. this was the best daily i've ever had and i was really sad to see it go.

...but then i got a bunch of wheels and felt much better.

i also ordered a ton of tires, my seat, aero, fenders and most of the little things i need to wrap this thing up. i should be sliding in no time!

Your drift spares are my dream wheels. Mad jealous. haha

On a serious note, you're not worried about destroying your independent brake line if you blow out a tire? Looks like if a tire shreds it could grab that brake line and rip it off in the wheel well....

now that you mention it, that's a real possibility. maybe i'll route those lines through the wheel well a little closer to center. good catch!

Very nice build you have going here sir. I'm jealous of your access to/ownership of fabrication tools. Odd that you moved the tension rods farther out on the control arms though.
