I second this, I used a relay and switch for my Ford fan, switch is still in the engine bay, I hate it. Soooooooo, what would be a good ignition on source that will not require a relay.

Safely, there is none. The main ignition to the key switch is the only high current ignition wire in the car, but tapping off of it without a relay may overload the circuit. Then you'll be buying those pretty 45A fusible links every few days. Use a relay, do it right.

i used a $25 painless wiring relay kit from summit racing for my Efan and and i hooked it up to the fuel pump fuse. it works perfectly and doesnt' allow current to flow back into the circuit when i shut the car off. without a relay you'll turn the car off, the fan will still spin, and it could feed back enough current to keep the car alive for a few seconds then sputter, backfire, and die.

not so good for impressing the ladies.

relays are king.
