4" Exhaust (downpipe wrapped)

So I'm having an issue with heat radiating into the cabin. The 2jz generates enough heat as it is along with a 4" exhaust. Now after completing the 6sp swap it feels as though the heat is always on in the cabin since it sits so close to the sheet metal (less than a 1/4in).

I'm looking into different options for heat insulation and anyone who has experience with a product, preferably and stick on product. Going to cover the lower portion of the firewall, floor boards, and trans tunnel.

Searched around and found a thread on Nico who swears by "GT Mat". Of course my options are open.

I can't comment on my personal experience with their thermal products but I have used several of the noise insulation products and everything worked fantastic. Everything I have read or heard about their products has been great. A little pricey but you gotta pay to play.

i had the same problem with my VH swap. even with a fully wrapped exhaust, i got some bad heat coming through... all of the heat seemed to come from the transmission tunnel, not sure how you would properly insulate that though... maybe some sort of spray on lining in the trans tunnel..

I was looking for something just like that. Most products I've looked at just had the rubber/black/whatever stuff is on the backside of the foil.

I remember seeing something on here that was form fitting. i believe it was a firewall application. had an almost carbon/kevlar look to it. Can't remember the name or where i saw it. Tried searching

Ya I'm looking for something to use on my firewall in the interior to replace the factory stuff that crumbled apart.

Friend of mine who restores hot rods has used this stuff before. Hushmat ultra.

Well same problem I had. R154/1j. Used gold reflective foil all on the trans tunnel and it's good so far.

I've installed this all along my trans tunnel and it's been doing its job. No signs of deterioration, and with track events (autox, drifting) and extended driving times I can put my hand against the tunnel and it feel barely warm. I plan on getting more and placing it above where the exhaust/cat runs.

I've also lined the firewall with gold heat reflected wrap from Pegasus auto.

Do any of you have coating on your exhaust components? I'm planning to coat everything except the catback. I also have new carpet from stockinteriors with the mass back option, which is supposed to reduce heat as well.

I'm likely going to do some sort of insulation on the interior firewall, and perhaps on the interior trans tunnel/floor under driver/passenger, but i won't take it back too far. I'm undecided if i'm going to also put additional "reflector type" heat insulation like the lava mat/gold stuff on the exterior/engine bay/underside etc. might be overkill at that point.

http://stockinteriors.com/massback.asp for anyone curious about that. I've had this same carpet in a previous 240, and it worked very well. The only negative is the required cutting as it's not pre-cut.
