Rear over fender questions **not how to mount
Hey guys, before I get flamed for not searching, I did already.
My question is not how to attach the panels to the car or how to mold them in, I've also seen the DIY videos of how to cut out the wheel well and weld it all together, my question is what are guys doing for an inner wheel well between the fiberglass quarter and the factory quarter? Being 20-50mm wider than stock there's got to be quite a bit of space in there for dirt and water and what not To get in and just sit there and rot it all to shit. Also what brands at you guys using? Can't afford the origins, heard b-magics are shit, currently looking at some D1 spec 30mm quarters that look decent Thanks |

Spray foam. You get it at a hardware store.

Oh and as far as fitment goes, you get what you pay for. If you want the $99 ebay special "d1" fenders, dont expect em to fit like origin. Likewise, dont expect origin to fit like chargespeed and dont expect chargespeed to fit like vertex.

I really don't have $700 to spend on a couple panels... So eBay $199 panels are looking pretty good right now. I really haven't decided whether or not to mold them in or just rivet them on, seeing as I work in a body shop I don't think my boss would really appreciate it if I just riveted em on... Lol
Thanks for the ideas guys, I also thought about filling it all up with spray foam then just glassing it inside to finish it off and seal it somewhat. I'm from Canada so even getting these eBay special $199 panels here, they'll still end up being like $350-$400 panels..... Shippings a bitch. |

^do not use spray foam....
it'll hold moisture (including salty residue) and speed up any panel rot (I bought a beater vert for my next project and well, hadn't been driven in a year and the expanding foam the previous douche used for bondo support in the rockers was still moist/wet) not here in ontario where the salt doesn't wash off the roads until May |

This will just be a summer car anyways, but even in wet conditions spray foam doesn't sound like the greatest idea come to think of it, thanks for the input.
I'm thinking maybe get the fenders all molded on and body work finished , then start making a new wheel well out of metal and welding it to the existing wheel well and maybe seem seal it to the fiberglass fender...or something like that. I want it sealed as well as I can. |

I just ordered some duraflex 30mm ones, see how they are once they get here.
Regardless they're will be plenty of body work done to them so I'm not real concerned |

If I was in your situation(working at a body shop) id do what G5SR said - weld some sheet metal in there, it'd completely seal it if done right and you wouldn't have to worry about it retaining moisture. Good thread though I was pondering the same since I have chargespeed rears waiting to be put on.

Yeah I think what I'll do after I cut out and reweld the factory wheel well is, mock up the quarters and see how much space needs to be filled and basically cut to fit pretty well sealed. This way it will basically just be an extension of the factory well (obviously a few inches above stock though) and look decent if anyone takes a peak under there.
I'm sill waiting on confirmation on my order from duraflex though.... I will be doing a build thread later when I fully commit to doing the body (if I get approved of one)... |
