Sunroof Delete Panel

Does anybody still make them. Only one I could ever find was the Kognition and they stopped making them long ago.

I made a delete bracket that reuses the sunroof glass.

It bolts directly to the rack mount and to the bottom of the sunroof.

Here is the fitment on the top.

My friends that hated their sunroof have always swapped the entire roof skin lol. Kind of extreme though.

use a bunch of painters tape on the inside and fill in the entire sunroof panel (sticky side up), and fiberglass on top of the painters tape, whenever is hardens, peel off the tape, and enjoy your new form fit block off panel.

painters tape doesnt stick to fiberglass, so you can peel it once it hardens.

I just riveted in a steel panel from Lowes. It makes a good place to store my track number magnets, doesn't leak, and now I can fit in the car with a helmet on in the stock seats. Total cost was like... $30 or so?

^ thats a good idea

I had sheet metal welded in place, but it will deform even if you get a roof support welded along with it. the fiberglass is probably the best idea if you can remember not to bang on your roof.

If you weld, make sure you go slow as fuck because the metal is so thin uptop.

I do track weekends, so I wanted something that would be at least as safe as the factory non-sunroof car would be in a roll over event. Fiber glass (esp my DIY skills with that material) didn't fit that bill, but a decently thick sheet of steel at Lowes did once I went a little heavy on the rivet count.

The roof IS curved, and the sheet IS flat, so there will be some humps along the edges that need to be filled with RTV. I riveted it from the center front and finished it at the back to place those humps where they would bother me the least. I also found I needed to cover the tops of the rivet heads to stop all the leaks. Used about half a tube of black RTV in a caulk gun to do it.

If that don't work, this will do just fine for me.

Thank you all.

I hate to say it but that looks like poopies.

The solid brackets wont really fix the issue you'd have with the sunroof, which is the fiberglass trim breaking apart, not sealing the edges and leaking like a muffo.

My plan for the bracket was to also make a sealant strip that would go in between the roof and the sunroof, creating a water tight seal on the entire piece. Also the plastic trim is not broken on mine, so basically I really only have to worry about making sure that the sunroof glass is sealed. Doesn't seem like it will be to big of an issue.

Thats the thing, the fiberglass piece is not broken...yet. Itll happen eventually. Once that piece starts chipping away, a chunk of it will just fly off one day while youre driving. When that happens, welcome to the same issue that every S14 sunroof owner dreads. You cant replace that trim, that piece holds the rubber sealant in place, so you'd have to figure out another way of sealing it without making it look like absolute poop.

Keep an eye on the edge of that trim. If you start noticing it delaminating off the glass on the inside corners, its roh-roh time.

Which is why I'm a bit surprised that no one has come up with a fiberglass piece that would work similar to the brackets I made. Would look similar to an RX7 sunroof from the outside.

Glass part is easy to find. Find one with the fiberglass trim/rubber seal intact is a different story.

The trim is the only reason why I'm looking for a new one. Since that's the only part we can't buy seperate from the rest. Wish somebody would make a cf trim piece.
