Well I stopped in at Sear's today on my way home from a lecture.  Wasn't really looking for anything at first but then thought I should get a new socket wrench since I only have an 18" torque wrench, and a tiny 1/8" socket wrench that came in a 52 piece travel set.  Unfortuneately (or forturnately i guess) I couldn't remember if the 20 sockets I bought a few months ago were 3/8" or 1/2".

So I wandered over to the power tools, or maybe they drew me in, but there I was.  I thought I'd check out their electric impact wrench again but didn't see one and the first guy who helped me was clueless about the existance of one.  Another guy came along and said they had a few in back.  Comes back and sure enough he had 2.  One was brand new in box for $180, the other was the former floor model for $60 (as is, no case like the new one had).  Sweet.  We plugged it in and sure enough it worked fine.  Sounds just like a power drill.  It's got a bit of character (finger prints and dirt, but nothing I can't clean off), but I went for it anyway.

It's pretty cool.  While I'd love an air compressor with a full array of air tools (they had a huge $800 floor model marked down to $400 and it would have been worth it if I ran a service center, no wheels, it bolts to the floor), my small garage and limited buget just don't allow it yet.

In anycase, it will twist 240lb/ft which is respectable (I think my friends cheap air one put out less than that), and it's no louder than a power drill.  DOwnside is it's a bit bulky and at full price you could get a pancake compressor and cheap air wrench for almost as much.  But for $60 I think it was quite the deal.

Electric Impact Wrench

i bought an electric zip gun, 40 bucks from price club. worked pretty well for a while, but after heavy use, the clutch fried like a motherfucka. i have since switched to air, and keep the electric as a spare...

Yeah, I don't see this as taking the place of air tools, but for a residential garage I think it makes a nice, temporary, low duty fix. &nbsp; At the very least it should make for some quick wheel changes. &nbsp; And of course there's no cycle time wheile the compressor is running. &nbsp; It seems pretty beefy and it certainly wasn't cheap at full price, so I'm hoping to get a few years out of it.

The garage is full of porsche parts, window, seats, carpet, guages, curtians, Brand new wheels, non radial tires, I need to find time to finish it.. And by the way in those pictures the body is raised up, its really not that high..Im missing one thing and thats the porsche emblem... <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/sad.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

wow, color me green with envy. &nbsp; If I ever restored a car, that would be high on my list, though a classic american v-8 muscle car is climbing the charts.
