Red face Start UTI in Rancho this monday for Diesel....

Idk what to think of it.
Signed some loans and hopefully I can get a job within 6 months of graduating so I can begin to pay them.

Anyone ever gone this route?

should of gone to a community college instead. my cousin did it and found a job through ford. i believe he started at like $14 from the very bottom (lube tech lol) and now he's making about $17-22 an hour "flagging" as a diesel tech

its a waste of money, sorry to say. i was gunna go to uti also, but then i read a LOT of reviews of how its a waste of time. they don't teach you really anything. u aren't paying for an education. you're paying for the job they'll probably get you once u graduate. IF they get you the job.

I agree! and not to shatter your dreams or anything like that, but it is the truth. I love working on cars and and I actually went there for 4 phases, and got out. There are several guys who work at UTI facility because when they graduated they couldnt find a job. and I actually know a lot of people who went there and are without a job in they're field of study. It is ridiculously overpriced, and the instructors there dont really seem to care much wether you learn or not. I got out and got my degree instead of the certification and am doing good now myself. I mean, if you pursue and are determined in your goals, then dont let anyone discourage you, this is just some input and its all a "personal opinion". but i really wish you the best of luck in your future.

I'm sure I can make the top of my class.

I studied computer science for a year.
Got all A's in my classes (java, database, c, c#) except for the ones the really didn't interest me (math, english)

Why go from studying to be a software developer to a Diesel mechanic?

UTI is completly what you make of it. There is alot to be learned and they can teach you anything you want to know. I completed the program and had good luck getting a job, all my friends that went with me got good careers in decent time. Like I said its what you make of it. Dont listen to people that havent gone there for the whole program. I agree it is a little expensive Im still paying off my loans 4 years later, but like i said you will learn tons if you apply yourself. And the diesel program is the best program they have, the deisel pad has engines from every manufacturer of diesel engines. If you are going to go make sure you get into a diesel manufacturers program once you graduate all your phases, you will have the best luck this way. I went to the AZ campus, I miss it everyday. It was a blast to hang out with everyone and always be talking about cars. Nicholas Cage donated a Ford GT and my class got to put on a ton of boltons and dyno it, it was cool to drive a Ford GT at 200mph on a dyno. I know some campus' are really shitty so make sure you pick a good one.

wyotech is way better. and getting good grades and have good attendance history looks really good to employers. and at wyotech if you take their automotive service managment course it turns into a degree

Cannot see myself sitting behind a desk or a computer monitor 8 hrs a day even if pay is two or three times as much. Not my thing.

And yea I read a lot its what you make of it.
If I apply myself good, it will be good.
Give it shitty time I will have shitty time paying the loans back.
I'm going to the diesel program in Rancho.
Unfortunately the day before school starts. My car starts acting up. 2006 vw passat :/

Can you see yourself being a lube tech?

You're downgrading your career and earning potential because you want to be a professional grease monkey. Smart.

I agree with going from a path to a white collar professional job to becoming a technician isn't the best choice, but ultimately you are the decider.

Have you looked into electrical engineering? It can be similar to CS in some ways but is is a much borader field, and you def don't sit in front of a desk all day.

I was a honor grad and perfect attendance on wyotech. Never landed a good job. One interviewer laughed at me because I went wyotech instead of the community college auto program. What a douchebag

I went to wyotech. I'm now a fabricator/paint/body at a hot rod/nascar shop. I build frames, rear ends, bodies, etc etc. Wyotech taught me a lot and I most definitely wouldn't have this job without it. You're not going to land a great job right out of school unless it's available. I laugh at kids who bitch about not having a job after school. Sometimes you have to man up and get a factory welding job until you can locate the job you want, instead of crying about not having a job. Get some real world experience first and then try for a good shop. I've worked at body shops, factories, dealerships, performance shops and now the nascar shop. My last job was building Turbo kits and Fab work on vipers, vettes etc. The people complaining just either are pussies and don't know how to find a job, or didnt pay attention at school.

Good friends with the manager, said he'll try to talk to him to get me in after I get a couple diesel courses done.

Fingers crossed but not keepin my hopes up. Try to go through cummins hopefully work on power generators.
