Please help starter wiring (relocated battery)

Before i start, YES i have done research, ive been trying to fix this for hours on hours and now i have to uber to work bc my cars not starting im NOT being lazy, so please, save yourself some time and dont bother to give me shit, and instead please i beg you guys, help me figure this shit out.

I just finished rebuilding motor and starting putting everything back in, and have wired the battery from the trunk to the fuse box and directly to the starter. Im shit with wiring, dont know how everything works just base knowledge (pos,neg, how a circuit works), anyways, my starter has been spinning but not engaging the flywheel and im thinking its my wiring... Just bought a new starter because it was clicking and not starting, but now its doing this, heres all the pictures i can provide.

Hopefully my problem is that red plug i only have (1/2) plugged into it, because im not sure what the other one looks like or where it comes from, so if you know, please let me know.







On videos i have watched, this cable below looks exactly like all of the ones that were used as a power source, but mine is too small and doesnt fit around the power bolt, but fits perfect for the alternator, so i believe that it is for the alternator.

My rpms show the starter spinning, i can hear it, its not turning the car over however. And as far as i know, theres not a special alignment it needs to be in considering it really only goes in one way.

Well... i tried running it straight to battery, and to the plug he used in video... and its just spinning making noise but not engaging the clutch. Wtf

sounds like bad starter...the solenoid pushes the starter so it can engage the flywheel and spin the motor, if it doesn't spin the motor but the starter is spinning then its a bad starter...

what the fucking fire hazard.

Starter circuit is stupid simple:
1) heavy gauge wire, provides 'actual' power. this is hot [+12v] at all times
2) small wire, signal to solenoid. +12v when key is in START position.

EDIT: so get a multi meter and check - do you have +12v at the starter at all times? [the heavy gauge wire, that's 'bolted' on. not the spade terminal]

Yeah if the starter spins but doesn’t turn the engine. Sounds like it isn’t reaching out to engage the flywheel. Take it back and have it bench tested to see if it extends when starting.

Going to check all of that today.
What the fucking fire hazard was a good laugh haha. I wont leave any of it how it is, going to cover a lot of shit up.

I think my problem could be that im using 2 gauge wire running to the trunk and im not getting enough power to the starter. Ill let you guys all know in a couple hours

nah man, 2 gauge is plenty.

I just said it in another thread, i'll say it again and again.

electrical 101 - get multimeter, start at battery, trace wires and check each step along the way....do you have 12v when and where you should?

answer my first questions and we can go from there.

Weird.... so, i moved battery to front, (just set it on the windshield), and car started up (turnedover) when the battery was in the back i was getting 12 to the starter, and when the battery was in the front, same thing. The thing is, is when somebody turns the key And attempts to start the car, it only reads to about 8-9 volts and wont turn it over when it is at 6. So problem is solved, but technically could still have issues when i put it back in trunk with 2 gauge.

Also, those voltage readings are low. That's why I said you battery is dead. Sure it might be 'new', but it's still dead. Anything under 12.4v or so is no good.

Maybe you have been doing a bunch of testing and whatnot which is draining it.

No shit, i recharged the previous one multiple times but had to buy a new one after oreillys tested it and had a dead cell. Bought the new one, and still wont work in trunk, therefore, i probably need 4 gauge wire rather than 2 so the current can travel through the wire easier

Fuck it, i think i figured it out guys thanks for help, i think i just need different gauge wire to the trunk.

I don't think thats your issue. I have 4G wire from the trunk to the battery of my coupe without issues for 3+ years now.

No, you didn't say that. My point is that 4GA wire is smaller than 2GA. So I don't believe that to be your issue.
