Hood Pins

Anyone in here use hood pins on a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood? if so what type of hood pins do you use? i have some really cheap looking hood pins that came with my hood. Not sure if i want to use them or not. i am considering buying either aerocatch hood pins or Daystar hood pins.

I ran hood pins with my CF hood- very handy to keep it from fluttering at higher speeds. Not sure what kind they were... maybe Sparco(?).

If the ones you have look/feel cheap, get a different set. CF/FRP hoods don't weigh shit- the hood pins really don't have to be very strong to do the job- a lor of sets are lightweight aluminum. Also, they don't exert that much pressure on the surface, otherwise it would crack the finish.

Tell your friend to snug them up a bit, clean the posts and add a light film of lithium grease, Vaseline etc to them

I was worried about fucking up mine too, so I elected to have them professionally installed. Cost me like 80 bucks... But it was better than messing up or having asymmetrical holes on my $800 hood=)

It's just measuring and checking your marks. I did mine in my garage over the course of 2 days. I was scared shitless because I didn't want to damage my hood, but they cam out perfect. I think the biggest issue is locating the spot the holes need to be cut on the hood itself once the posts are mounted.

I just ended up putting a bit of grease on top of the pins once I had them mounted and slowly closed the hood until it touched the pins. It at least gave me a start point on where to start a small hole to work my way out from.

i run the aerocatch on my seibon cf hood. I put grease on the top of the pins as well to get where the center point was and used the stencil they gave with the hood pins and cut the rest out with a dremel...wasn't too bad just take your time. Cutting a hood that you just bought isnt fun but it was worth it in the end...i would definitely recommend them on a cf hood. my hood would rattle up and down at highway speeds before and now doesn't move at all

Bingo. That first cut is really tough, but I used a Dremel and just measured 5 times.
