LABEL EVERYTHING....Yes, EVERYTHING... No matter how simple you think it is now, when you go to re-assemble you will be lost without labels...

Please do yourself a favor and buy a book on how to build an engine.. It will give you the essential basics to go from..

Also- Make sure you dont get oil/greasy finger prints all in the bearing journals or on the BACK of the bearings.. You want the mating serfaces to be clean and degreased.

Labeling is great advice. Take a nice size box and put a box of ziploc bags and a sharpie marker in there and write on the bag what the bolts are and where they go. This will make putting it back together so much easier. Also take pictures. Step by step, different sides of the engine, engine bay, exc. It sucks when you find something at the end and cant figure out where it goes. Pics will save you so many headaches. Good luck on your rebuild.

Take the valve cover off... take off the cams... and then take off the head...

Keep all the cam covers in order and loosen the head studs in order according to the FSM...

After the head is off, take apart the bottom end... And make sure you keep everything in order...

Tearing down is the easy part!

You seriously need to get some Ziplok baggies and label them with all bolts/nuts etc
Or else you will end up loosing/missing/forget where the go syndrome!!

Also there are alot of things that need to be removed in a certian order to keep from breaking - stripping threads - breaking studs - warping etc - like some big ones would be the head - exhaust mainfold - cams etc

Get you a FSM and make it law! or you will be replacing more than bearings!

You can download whatever FSM you want from my site;

Removing should go from Out to in. Alternating sides as you go. Also, do it in a couple stages.

It doesn't really matter what happens to the chain, becuase you are taking apart the whole motor. But if you aren't planning on doing that, all you have to do is ziptie a wrech to it, and flop it over the side. The oil pump has notches in it that won't let it skip time on the crank as long as you don't let it drop way down in there.

Its good to keep it organized. I don't anymore in bags, just put certain groups of bolts in different trays. But I've torn down my fair share. If you do it more, you'll learn.

Well if you are taking off the oil pump, then dont worry about the chain. Let it drop down into the block. It won't matter becuase you will be able to get it when you pull the oil pump off.

No.. Just read the FSM.

Take off sprockets. Let chain fall.

Take of cam caps. Take out cams.

Take out chain tensioner.

Take out CAS.

Undo head bolts (Make sure in the right order or you can/will warp/crack your head)

Lift off head.

Then you can take off water pump, but it doesn't really effect anything.

Also, you can't take the oil pump off, until you pull the lower and upper oil pans, as a couple of the bolts are in there.

I just said yes.

YOU ARE TAKING IT APART. Nothing matters. Everything will be coming off.

It can be TDC, TDL, TDR, as long as you don't try and take a piston out through the bottom or something you will be fine.

theres a lot of overwhelming nothing posts in this thread but ill say...

like JDS said

1. Get some plastic baggys and some note cards to match for labeling
2. Get a copy of the fsm from online.
3. If you can't read the fsm or can't find the bolt order and just need an additional tangible quick ref go buy a Haynes Manual for the 200sx usdm that came with the SR, I tore the page out and coppied it and just tape it in the gargae if i forget something.

he can just remove the crank, drop the pistons good to go.

TDC doesnt matter once the head is off, unless your not removing the lower internals.

No he can't.

#1 they will hit the oil squirters. And #2, I'm 99% sure it still won't come out the bottom even with those removed.
