I need a RB25DET Swap in my S14 240sx for about $1500?

Hi Zilvia Buddies,

I have my 1995 240sx and I want to put a RB25DET in to it. I was going to buy the motor and trans for about 3k. I want to know is there anyone out there that can do the swap good with no issues for $1000 or no more than $1500 tops. I have about $5000 saved and all the motor work and labor. I live in Central NJ and local shops are around or anything please reply with some details and the things i may need up front for doing the swap.

Thanks!!!

Wait. You're trying to put the motor from a Skyline into a Silvia?

I'm pretty sure they're different cars.

ya and the guy asked about a RB25 not a RB20. LOL This thread is full of fail.

OP, you contradict yourself , first you say you were gonna get a swap for 3k. Then you say now you want to pay 1k or $1500. Though you have 5k to spend.

Not making to much sense there man.

Suggestion, average price for a RB25DET is around 2-2500. That's for a full clip. You might find a motorset for around 1800-2k.

With that said, when you include purchase of and engine with the swap kit and a wiring service? You are already at or around 3500. That gives you $1500, to buy all the accessories you will need and spare cash for little stuff, that's unexpected but always happens.

I would say, you are shaving things a bit tight on the financial side, even with doing most of the work yourself. Do you know how to wire? Are you ready to tackle a project like this?

and i was just suggesting RB20 and younghatchownder is just agreeing with me? i think.

even cheaper, as long as you're not putting one in an s13/14.

You have to factor in plumbing for intercooler, radiator, electric fan setup, any engine swap you should replace the seals and the clutch before putting it in your car unless you trust who you bought it from. oh yeah you will need a mount kit. Don't forget you may need a custom driveshaft made. Those are about 4-500 dollars.

An rb25 swap done properly should run you close to 6 grand if you're lucky.

I know this is zilvia and most people don't do shit properly they buy a 240, buy a motor thinking they can drop it in, then create a for sale ad months later saying they can't figure anything out drift car for sale 8 grand.

So do some reading and save some more money and don't ask stupid ass questions like this.

If you don't know how or are not willing to try and do the work yourself, which will require tools, jackstands, a cherry picker most of which you can rent, but do you have a truck to haul a cherry picker back and forth with? And that shit costs money too.

Please take a step back from the computer and THINK before you post shit like this, anything you can get in life for cheap is either stolen or not worth paying for. And you will end up paying twice in the end.

Jdm engine depot ha a terrrrrible reputation. If you want an absolutely IMMACULATE motor, buy it from elite. You'll pay top dollar for it, but you probably won't even need to spend money on maintenance things after buying it. Their motors are that clean.

But $3400 for an sr, holy shit.

Oh most definitely. If you can afford it, Elite is the way to go. Youre getting a premium motor, but at a premium price. Anyone who buys from Elite should have NO concerns about whether or not their motor is healthy. And if it isnt, Elite wont give you the runaround on making it right like some companies do. I definitely give Elite an A+ on customer service and engine quality. Theyre just waaay outta my price range. But like I said, if you have the means, thats definitely the way to go.

werrrrrrrd lol rb swaps are not cheap when you use the RIGHT parts and do it cleanly with good effort. its not a simple task. you will always need more parts and have small issues along the way. remember your taking a motor that was never meant to be in that car and trying to make it fit. if you want something easier and fast get an SR. plus parts are also easier to get.

I got linked this thread, and feel that I can actually add something here lol. I've done quite a few RB swaps, and did the whole "legit RB25 build" on my S14.

First off, if someone hasn't done an RB swap, their opinion matters about 10x less than someone who has. There are intricacies that you just know about until you see them.

Secondly, if you're not doing an SR, it means that you want more... more power, prestige, whatever. That means you're willing to invest more.... more money, time, effort? Point is, do it right, start with the right stuff, and try to be legit.

1) Make sure the motor you buy runs... good compression across all cylinders (and leakdown if possible), turbo not blown, and starts (so good CAS, igniter, MAF, etc).

2) Replace the water pump (RB26 N1), oil pump (OEM RB25), idler pulley, tensioner pulley (both OEM), timing belt (Power Enterprise or Greddy), and spark plugs (OEM 300zx - they're heat range 6 NGK's). This will run about $500, and as long as you did step 1, guarantee a reliable motor.

3) Get a decent mount kit. I used the Ruckus/Zerolift kit, and loved it. Actually still have it, and will sell it with my driveshaft eventually.

4) You'll need a driveshaft. I used Spicer 1330 universals and 3" OD thin-wall steel, and it was BEAST, definitely ready for big power - also not much heavier (and tons smaller, and quite a bit cheaper) than aluminum. Aluminum's lighter by a small margin, but larger and more expensive.

5) WIRING - if your wiring harness is in great shape, this part's easy, just send it to someone who does RB25 swap wiring. If it's not perfect, most hack job wiring guys won't want to mess with it, or won't get it right. I did a full tuck/loom with Mil-spec components on my swap, but I do regular old swap wiring for very reasonable prices all the time.

6) Intercooler/radiator - most guys want to go with a Greddy knock-off intake mani so they can run a front mount, and I think that's an alright idea... that's what I did as well. Then you'll need a bigger 2- or 3-core radiator and the front mount kit, then radiator hoses (use the Skyline ones and cut them) and probably have to mess with the IC pipes to get everything to fit perfectly.

If that seems like a lot now, before you've even started, you need to take it to a shop and pay a bit more. If that seems doable, start looking for stuff and just know that you still might end up taking it to someone to finish lol.

well i got a pretty good deal for a full serious 2 swap turn key, i just put it in my car using the r33 crossmember. The driveshaft i went and measured and got it custom made, wiring had it professionally done, oem water pump, oem timing belt and other stuff. Its definately more involved than an sr which i previously had. But you can do it yourself for sure.
