What you guys are recommending is often a problem caused by dual row timing chains. The shims that you must install on the back of the pump, melling or not, causes misalignment with the oil pickup tube hole. Reverting back to the upgraded single row chain allows me to remove those shims and not have to machine the face of the pump. It'll fix the "scared" up oil relief passage walls which we believe is whats causing the sparatic pressure at times and also fix the oil pump pickup tube hole misalignment

The ferrules are actually the part of the fitting that holds the pipe (or hose, as it may be)... and the AN comes from Army/Navy, which got together when they started making aircraft and set the standard for design, manufacture, etc for pipe fittings, hose, connectors/adapters, and the like.

Edit: There's an industrial equivalent to the AN-spec, JIC, which has compatible thread pitch/size and flare for each diameter, but isn't manufactured to the same spec (threads will break, stuff leaks, etc). That's why everyone makes such a big deal about "AN".
