Wow! These candies with the clear looks really nice. Probably the most professional tint job, but if you are looking for a simple protective overlay that doesn't require a paint gun to apply than Laminx is a good alternative. I've had good success with their smoke films in the passed for smoking taillights side markers or whatever. They also offer different colors like blue yellow and red and come with an install kit so you can apply the film properly.

I used a urethane clear coat and didnt get it quite so shiny (I did the trim too) and it didnt turn out shiny. Is it a spray or does it come in a bucket

it's 2k, meaning a 2 part with an activator and a high solids urethane clear that's mixed together, the exact same product used in a 2 stage car paint job and applied with a spray gun. It's not a 1 part cellulose or aerosol product. There are lots of different clearcoats you can use but I just use a middle of the line spot/panel clear from the automotive paint store because I've found it tried and true for these kinds of projects.

there are some rattle can clear coats that are 2 part, they have a button that you press and the activator mixes with the clear, but after you use it once, it has no further life.

Spraymax and eastwood make products, yeah. But It's much cheaper to get clear from the paint store and it's higher solids since it doesn't need to be made sprayable with very lower pressure like a propellant.

its for the people who dont have spraying equipment or space to do such work... i used to have a dedicated garage with proper tools but now i live in an apartment and paint stuff in my balcony if needed (and then close all the doors or else the house will smell like spray)

I'm pretty sure they are standard fare ebay altezza/junyan style. Open them open & apply translucent red vinyl to the inside of the covers, then reseal them.
All credit to Bushido.

There are several different types available. Just search for "180sx clear taillights" and look through all the results on google images. They might not be on ebay anymore but they used to be. Searching "180sx junyan taillights"might help too.

Tried doing it myself, I think it came out really good in my opinion. I used VHT Night-Shade Spray Paint and a can of Dupli-Color Clear Coat. Got both at my local Pep boys and the total cost was about $25. I basically did 3 coats of red on the clear part, then 1 coat on the whole tail light and then 1 coat of clear. I feel like the lower part looks a bit darker, so I recommend doing a 4th coat of red on the clear part.
