Don't use an aerosol model paint or niteshades type of product if you actually want it to look good and last. A good way to do it is with transparent red vinyl because you can remove it if you ever need to, or the legitimate way is to mix some candy apple additive into automotive clearcoat and spray the area that needs to be redded out.
Here's vinyl on my s14 after almost 8 years. It's just now slightly starting to fade. |

Cheapest way is to use candy apple red model car paint. You can make it look like it was done well if you have the patience. But IMO it isn't worth it, I'd rather rock stock.

on mine, I applied 2-3 coats of the glass red paint, after a few hours of drying out, I applied 2 coats of clear lacquer... after an hour of drying, I buffed it out til its nice and shiny it has lasted for atleast a year without reapplying clear... I lived the way it looked. i also did my lil bro's coupes tails...

does everything on this forum have to be done wrong or ghetto? all of that rattlecan shit is a waste of time. automotive grade candy paint is the only way to do it right. vinyl overlays fade and peel, i remove crap like that all the time.
look at these overpriced assholes, they seem to do it right. before: after: fucking ripoff tho... and fuck the owner of that shop, hes a total d*ck that thinks his shop is gods gift to man |

what i did is buy ebay clear tails, unsealed the lenses with a heat gun and painted the inside of the lens with testors candy apple red spray paint. then just reseal them with some silicon window sealant from home depot

I did a pair of dmax tails for a coupe. 3 layers of house of color candy on the clear, remove tape and 1 coat all over, then clear coated with automotive clear.

i SO want to stand on that fucking bumper
as a professional, i can easily tell you that your advice is 100% wrong. however, since i am not at work and hate talking about work, i have no interest in telling you that you are doing it wrong. more importantly, no one ever gave me this advice when i started off... which is why i love when people learn things like i did, the hard way. all i can tell you, is that your advice is total-fail. |
