Tachometer problem on 5 speed ka24e
Hello, I have a 5 speed ka24e engine, the speedometer has been repaired but the tachometer still does not work. I have checked the wiring diagram and FSM but have not found the problem, where does the tachometer get the signal from?
Any comments from you guys. Thanks. |

Also, dunno if you mean repair by replacing the entire cluster, but the KA24DE and KA24E clusters are different and your tach wont work if you use a DE one. Just a heads up.

the signal wire comes from the small plug that connects to the engine harness if i remember correctly - by the ECU On the passanger side kick panel -- for nissan s14 models
if you have a 1997 i can get you the correct wire - if you have another car then you need the FSM |

Gotta love these 1-poster AI responses to old ass threads that are vague or wrong, just quoting generic old car advice. Keep it up crapping all over the internet with your bots, guys.
The tach signal is generated by the ECU. Different pins and voltages on the E vs DE ECUs but in all 240SXs the ECU takes the optical cam position sensor signal, converts that to a tach signal for the dash and also uses that to time the ignition. The tach does not get a signal from the ignition pulses coming out of the distributor/coil itself. |
