s14 FN01R-C Question (I searched)

I'm in a dilemma because all the topics are talking about S13s and I have an S14. Here's what I need confirmed.

I'm planning on the FN01R-C 17x8 O=25(front) 17x9 O=35(rear) 5-lug and I can't seem to find an answer as to whether this will cause tire rubbing within the wheel wells. i'm planning on 235/40 front and 255/35 rear. I don't want to have to roll my fenders, so should I stick with 17x8 all the way around?

Also after reading the other posts I'm pretty sure these will clear my 30mm brakes and my KYB/Eibach setup.

Anyone got some info?

Oh well, I just looked at the 5Zigen website and their application guide says those rims sizes will fit both the S14 and the Z32. So I should be okay.

But how about the tire rubbing issue? Tires too wide for the fenders?

First, you'll have to go with 255/40-17 rears...no one really makes a 35 series in that width.

Second, the 9", +35 fit fine in the rear from my experience...I had a set of FN01R-Cs in that size with ES100 tires in 255/40-17, and they fit w/o rubbing. I run ~1.8 degrees camber in the rear...

But my fender lips are rolled slightly, you may have to do the same (I'd doubt it, that's not a particularly aggressive wheel/tire combo)...basically knock that lip up a little, rather than letting it sit straight in. Took me 10 minutes with a rubber mallet, looks no different, but allows another 1/3" clearance.

I had 17x9 +37 on the rear of my s14, tons of room for tire. I ran 255-40-17 tires on them. They were sunk in quite a bit so I just sold them last weekend. You'll have no trouble with a 9" +35 in the rear at all. I'd go a little lower on the offset if I were you...

17x9 +15 fits the rear of an S14 fine. we bolted Kookz on to Russ car at hyperfest last year. you got MAD room in there.

Yeah see I was debating whether to go with the +35 or the +15 offset for the FN01R-C in the rears. I go with the +15 offset and hopefully have no problems.

Only problem is availability and where to find them at a good price. so far discounttiredirect.com has them for 209.00 a piece but they don't have the rears in hyperblack.

Anyone got a good source for rims?

i run 17x9 +15 in back with a 225 45 17 and 2 degrees camber.
i also have a 5mm spacer, so it makes the offset a +10
it fits perfect like that.

if you are in socal, i could sell you a pair of them for $400 pick up.

Have you gotten a pricing on these rims yet? What's the best you've found? My brother wants the exact same rims and exact same fitment and sizes, and I was considering starting up a GB through a rim place near my house (I am friends with the owner) and supposedly he says he can do it for $750 for all four rims, but that would be plus shipping for those who need it... I am not sure if that is a good deal or not?

Well, as far as prices, I found $209 for the 17x8 and $220 for the 17x9 which would total $860. If I could get them for $750 I would definitely hook it up. Let me know what happens with that.

So the 17x9 WILL fit the fronts without having to rool the fenders? +15 offset? Damn that's cool. But I don't think I want to go with such a fat tire on the fronts. Mostly because my real goal is to put my drivetrain on a diet. With the rims I'm running right now, G-Racing 18" Nagano, they're at 23 lbs. per rim!! With the FN01R-Cs I'll shed about 7 pounds per rim. As far as tires I'm trying to keep them relatively light also. So 245 or 255 all the way around doesn't really seem practical. The 17x8 in front with +25 should work just fine. I don't wanna use spacers at all with this setup. Have them on my fronts now (3mm) and I hate the way they make the front end feel loose. Need them to clear Z brakes.

they all work, but i am still having issues with my s15 45 because my car is so damned low that it i have to play with different height and camber settings all the time to try and get it to work perfect.

Keep in mind many of the people saying "+xx will fit" are running narrower tires than you want... 215s, 225s, even 205s. If you want a 255 to fit in the rear without rolling the lips, the +35 would have been a better choice. You may have to tweak the fenders a bit and run a little more camber to get a 255 on a +15 offset wheel in the back. Just FYI. It's the tires that rub the bodywork first, so pay attention to tire sizes when determining fender clearance.

The wheel manufacturers' recommendations assume wide tires, stock bodywork, and stock (0 to -1) camber. If you want to use wide tires, stock bodywork and stock camber, it makes sense follow them. If you buy narrower tires, roll lips, or run more camber, then you can fiddle with lower offsets.

With that in mind should I just go with the 17x8 all th way around? And just get say 235/45 tires to match? Because really I don't want to have to modify anything and I want to make my camber as close to 0 as possible without rubbing. Thanks for the input.

0 camber really isn't ideal... my cars with 0 camber (stock suspension) always scrub the outside edges of the front wheels when driving hard. At least go a little negative in the front. Anyhoo...

255 fits in the back just fine, just go with the 17x9 +35 wheel.

235 on the 17x8 +25 will fit great in the back too.

thanks. I'm still waiting for my 5-lug swap to come in the mail. Maybe two weeks. By then I'll have enough money to get the rims. I'm gonna go with the 17x9 +35 in back. Thanks. Can't wait!!! Whoohoo!!

So another question, tire brands. I'm really leaning towards Nitto 540s for 110 a piece online. Seem like a good tire and Nitto is a good brand. What do you think of them? Got any links to old threads about tire brands? I'm too lazy....

Blah..the only good Nitto tires were made for them by other manufacturers...hehe.

Good 17" tires for a reasonable price:

Yokohama ES100
The new BF Goodrich G-Force Sport (suprisingly sticky, seemingly good quality)
Kumho Ecsta MX
Dunlop FM901 (have a kinda sloppy sideall, but they're grippy)

I liked my yoko avs intermediates a lot, the es100 replaces the intermediate, it's got to be good.

heres a pic of FNO1R but in the article they said:

Our original 5Zigen FN01R forged wheel setup was 17x8" in the front, and 17x8.5" in the rear, but because the wheels were made for the front of a staggered setup they had a very "high disk" setup with almost no lip on the wheel. We opted to order two 5Zigen FN01R in a 17x9" +38mm offset setup, which yielded a considerable lip on the forged wheel and gave our rear wheel drive car a more muscular stance. We moved the 17x8.5" wheels to the front of the car, and ditched the 17x8" wheels. Yeah good article, but it doesn't really apply to me cause I'm running an S14. And on the S14 the rear whel wells are wider.

I'll keep looking for tires then. Maybe Kumho Ecsta Supra 712? I'm really just trying to keep tire costs down. Especially if I ever have to replace one. I don't want to have to go with a different tire cause I don't wanna pay 160.00 a pop.
