1998 S14 Exhaust

Anyone ever slap a Greddy Cat-back on a 240?  How do they sound?  I do -not- want my car to sound like a Honda!  Does anyone have a .wav or .mp3 of a car with a Greddy MX or any Greddy exhaust?  What is a good type of cat-back system to get?

I have a GReddy on my Integra, it's quiet and it doesn't sound like a fart can, does that tell you anything?  I've heard the GReddy MX on an S14 and it sounded fine. Most people go with the Apex'i N1 because they're cheaper than the GReddy system and they produce just as good, if not better results.

How about HKS?  Would you recommend the (price ignored) the (Greddy/HKS/Apexi) my friend has an Apex on his turbo Eclipse that has really gotten loud these past couple years.

I have a Greddy MX on my 98 S14, very nice, it sounds really really low, there's no any high pitched sound at all.  It's just a little bit too quiet for my taste. i'll try to record a sound clip of my exhaust....

The G'Reddy lists for about 6 bills so I would imagine it probably retails around $450. &nbsp;I think your average person could install it. &nbsp;(If you have any mechanical experince whatsoever) &nbsp;All my friends have put on their own exhausts.

&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;We just used those little things that pick your car up (little rampy type things) that are about a foot up. &nbsp;I know that's how they put on my buddies 97 Eclipse GS-T's exhaust. &nbsp;It worked perfect. &nbsp;He has an Apex'i exhaust which is fucking loud and I hate it!! &nbsp;I honestly just want a really quiet exhaust, but I don't know what brand to buy.

You need hand tools (duh), some floor jacks, some lubricant to lube up the bolts, and you can take care of the exhaust yourself. Make sure you do it in the daytime while the the hardware stores are still open just in case you're missing a bolt or something. It shouldn't take an entire day to do it. Just a few hours, if not, less.

As for the question about a quiet exhaust. Well, since the Silvia was a turbo car in Japan, most of the exhaust systems made for it are racing exhausts since the companies are too damned lazy to design or offer a quieter system. The n/a cars like Honda have more quieter aftermarket exhaust systems available for their cars for some reason (Tanabe Hyper Medallion, Apex'i World Sport, etc). The only catback that's remotely quiet would be the GReddy system. Otherwise, you'd have to go to an exhaust shop and get one custom made.

There are no good custom exhaust shops here. &nbsp;I had a custom dual built for my truck. &nbsp;It was alright. &nbsp;But I wouldn't do it on my 240. &nbsp;So the G'Reddy MX is a pretty reasonable sound? &nbsp;I e-mailed that other dude to try and get him to send me some sound clips. &nbsp;I wannna hear before I buy =P if I ever get a wyld hair up my ass and switch to SR will this exhuast still work then?

i have a hks hiper on my 98 s14 and it not loud,everyone tells me they like the way my car sound,it &nbsp;has a mellow tone to it,its alot queiter than the apex n1 i had.

umm, I'm sure it'll make a deep sound, but I think that I'm going to go with a Blitz Nur Spec R for my 240. &nbsp;Apex I heard is the loudest exhaust.

I really wanted to go HKS because I like their name way more than G'Reddy, &nbsp;G'Reddy just seems like a wank tuner brand to me and HKS seems more serious about racing... anyone have thoughts on that at all? ( I don't know much, and I'm sure that's a biased opinion. )

i would consider Greddy (Trust) the more serious tuner, i remember that 1000hp drag 180sx that HKS built, and i really don't like drag racing so i'm biased against HKS, and my friend with a turbo MR2 has a lot of greddy products on his car that work well for him

referring back to the exhaust issue, a &quot;turbo&quot; style cat back will not produce optimal power on a NA engine just as a &quot;NA&quot; style cat back won't work as well on a turbo car, you can use whatever you want, but it might not work as well as it could

I have the HKS Super Dragger for the 97 240sx. It looks really good in the car. &nbsp;The performance is awesome and not too loud. It bolts right on and easy to install. Not many people has it in their s14 but I think is one of the best exhaust system for the s14.

GReddy is more than just a &quot;wanker&quot; brand. &nbsp;People always use their stuff in Japan like their intercoolers and exhaust systems, even on a few occassions, their turbos.

Does Trust make good sturt bars? &nbsp;I saw some on eBay. &nbsp;I figured if they were really Trust, then they wouldn't be $65 ... any reply to that? =P

All strut bars are the same. They all do the same thing. When making a strut bar, it isn't something you can mess up, it's just a sturdy metal bar with brackets. So any strut bar would work fine. I'd have to say 70% of the people who bought the expensive ones did say, &quot;Well, this bar is nice, but a cheaper one could have done the same thing.&quot; The brand and price would only matter on the installation methods. Some bars install differently than others. Most of the time, the case falls with rear strut bars. You'd either have to cut something off the plastic housing over the rear upper strut towers to get to the installation points or remove a couple panels and bolt it right in. The front strut bar, whether it's some no name, cheap-ass one or a $200 Nismo bar, they all install the same and do the same shit. So basically, &quot;whatever works&quot;. Any strut bar would be an improvement anyway and you're not replacing anything like you would with say...springs, sway-bars (on some cases), or shocks. Trust makes good bars, a lot of people have 'em. If the price is right, I can't see why not. The only thing about 'em actually being &quot;GREX&quot;, &quot;TRUST&quot;, or &quot;GREDDY&quot; is just a #### sticker from what I saw on various cars. Without that sticker, they're just a regular bar. Just think about it.

As far as the price on eBay. $65 is cheap. They normally retail for $100-$110. It's eBay, of course it's cheap. However, some eBay people are sneaky and it could just be a &quot;Trust-style&quot; strut bar. Toss me a link on this thread and I'll check it out.

How well DO the silencers sound on the N1's? My friend got one on his Tanabe Racing Medallion and it sounded like ass fart. He thinks it's because that single bolt that's holding onto the silencer to the muffler ain't cuttin' it.

I also forgot another S14 exhaust to try is the Tanabe G-Power Medallion. It looks different than the other exhausts out there and it sounds deep, not too loud. I knew someone from one of my previous jobs who had one on his 95 S14. It's $100 more expensive than the GReddy though, plus it's discontinued, but some shops might still have it.

I guess.

So you would say opt out on the strut bars? &nbsp;I'm not looking to save weight. &nbsp;I have a big stereo in my 98, plus probably 50 lbs of Dynamat. &nbsp;And I'm probably going to add more!

Strut bars are great though, it'll reduce chassis flex and some vibration. So just get whatever strut bar fits your budget, make sure it's a very solid bar, and spend the big bucks on a good set of springs and shocks where it really matters in your suspension.

Well, the description for TIG welding just means it's been precisely welded with a laser, so ignore that &quot;Japan-spec&quot; bullcrap. Eh..whatever works. &nbsp;They all do the same thing anyway.
