splitter/bumper protector
hello
i was wondering if anyone has devised a method to protect frp bumpers from complete destruction i was thinking a 1/4" thick aluminum plate riveted to the bottom of the bumper and some expanding foam, it would be a skidplate and the foam would act as stiffener ideas on how to? i'd heard of wood and those abs plastic pads that they have. the plastic, i don't want to buy, and the wood seems too heavy and would weigh down the bumper causing sag

The plywood splitters that people use are mounted to the car itself not the bumper, which is why they don't sag. If anything they might actually help hold the bumper up. Anyways, I think if you were to fasten a splitter to the bottom of a fiberglass front bumper the only thing it would accomplish is the destruction of the entire bottom of your bumper instead of just one small chunk when you hit something lol.

Fiberglass is going to break, regardless of how much you reinforce it. And as stated above, you would probably only make matters worse by adding aluminum to the bottom of the bumper. Thats just the risk you take when you buy fiberglass parts.
