Can any of you give me some tips to look for sea foam / silver green metallic coupes for sale in my area (los angeles)? I had an opportunity to buy one recently but I didn't go through with it because the buyer didn't have the title.

I notice they pop up more on the east coast (florida)/and mid east for some reason.

If anyone can help me out I would love to "save" one. Manual or Automatic, I don't care. Most be original color as stock as possible. Salvage title ok.

I already was going to buy that car.

It is a real messed up situation. guy doesn't have the title and is quite shady.

The car is leaking oil bad and engine has a knock.

Also looks like due to accident it has frame damage, doesn't drive straight

So I got the seller down low enough where it was a good buy, considering all the things it needs to get inspected for smog and lighting, and the lifter or rod knock (hopefully lifters)

I bought it today

Safe and sound in my friends garage finally. Been looking for this colour for so long.

Non hud, no sunroof, auto 89 model, auto seatbelts, no spoiler.
Just looking to restore and possibly convert to manual.
No drifter stuff happening- maybe give it a little era specific flavor of wheels but thats it.

hope to not hear scraping exhaust for at least a little while. it will be painted two tone and will have works9 rep sides and rear with a kouki k's s14 spoiler or 326 on the boot. id like to see what a kouki 180sx wing would look like on there.

the car was sitting at a body shop for a while, as the original owner left it there or something, and didn't want to pay to repair the fender bender on the front driver corner.

So then it sat and sat, and the shop put a lien on it, and then they put it up on craigslist for sale. Then the guy I bought it from went out there and bought it. But he never went to the DMV to register in his name, well- not until like the day or two before I went to go see it, he partially filled the paperwork but didn't pay any of the fee's owed or anything. Basically it needs a VIN check by the dmv, a smog check, light check and then I need to pay like $260 owed on it from the lien and then I can apply for the title.

I drove it home from Inglewood, which I probably shouldn't have- as I know if I got stopped it could of been seized but it was running so I did it anyway. Main problem with the car is the poor single cam is making a tapping noise- I think it is a rod knock and it has low compression- it wasn't going higher than 2k rpm on the 710 back home, but I was going light on the gas anyhow. It has this huge 3" exhaust with long tube header- I am removing and got all the stock piping all the way back for it already.

I can almost guarantee that broken timing guides are causing the tapping noise. Every single cam I have ever owned has had this issue. What happens is the main guide breaks and the bits get in the oil pan and clog the oil pickup. This causes low oil pressure which causes the lifters to tap.

Pull the valve cover and take a peek, I would bet a decent amount of money that the main guide is completely gone.

As for the other issues, it is very possible that timing could have jumped a tooth which is why it isn't revving past 2k. If the guides broken there is a good chance the previous owner ran the car with low oil pressure for awhile which can lead to all sorts of problems including knock though.
