i noticed essentially autoX, and drag guys posted there setup. yet I've only seen one road race minded car (that being sasha, who has a z33 to race with for next season). I know in some instances you are limited by tire width due to class and what not. The point of this thread seems lost to me, with out at least digging into the area where jason rhoades and aceinhole really spend the money on. suspension. what good is having massive amounts of rubber if the suspension isn't up to the task.
275 isn't necessary on our cars. hell if we are road racing 255/40/17 RA1 or NT-01s should be fine enough without going widened fenders.

This thread is about large wheel/tire fitment, not an overall strategy for building a track car.
Aceinhole had D2 coilovers until very recently. Clearly, big tires were of benefit to him despite his less-than-ideal suspension. Have you tested various tire widths by comparing track times? Sure, 245s or 255s are probably adequate and the best choice for most, but that's not to say that larger tires won't turn faster laptimes. I'm guessing Sasha wasn't running 275 f/305 r just for looks. |

just curious how this set up would be for the street even tho you dont use it for that...car looks badass and Id love to have a similar set up...I would think those 315's would give you more traction on the street...no? |

gsracer FTW!
I run 275s on my 9 inch rims, and would have to concerns about saftly running a 285, 285 would be considered... but with low profile tires you start to push it there if you want to handle. My car sees the road course. I dont go door to door racing, but do HPDE. I also do 6-7 drag days a year, and 7+ auto-x.

Instead of going 10mm wider (doesn't do that much) just get a stickier compound. |

I didnt say i needed to go bigger. I was saying that I wouldn't have any concerns with going bigger then the size I have on a 9inch rim. Like earlier someone stated that its not safe to have a 285/295 on a 9.5 rim

I don't have any pictures but on my s14 i have 18x9.5 with +12 offset MB Drifter wheels and 275/35/18 yokahama advan neova's on all 4. the front has wide body fenders and i pulled the rear out about an inch with a fender roller. i had to run about -2.5 camber in the front and about -2 on the rear. on the rear there was still room to go in about an inch in and use wider-less offset wheels. probably could have fit 315's under there. but i like the way it looks now.

Stock suspension after coilovers and control arms BBS E26 GT2 race wheels Front 17x9.5 245/40-17 Rear 17x10 275/40-17 I have the wheels off the car because they have broken. I'm buying some new rim halves and I plan to run 17x10 in front with 275/40-17 and 17x12 rear with 315/35-17 tires. 50mm rear fenders and 20mm front fenders(not enough, I'm going to end up making custom ones to fit 275's in front) I use the car for Track events and its my back up car when my super reliable BMW M3 breaks down. I have aspirations of racing it in NASA PT series in a couple years.

I'm really not sure exactly... I measured them once a few years ago. I think it was something like +12 in front and -6 in the rear. My numbers could be off. They aren't really sold with offset sizes; you order the rim halves by width. The front fit without a spacer but it is very close to the coilover, I couldn't add any more to the inner rim half. There is plenty of room for more inner rim on the rear though.
Front - outter rim - 1.5 inner rim - 8 Rear - outter rim - 3 inner rim - 7 I'm ordering new outter 2" halves for the front and 9" inner halves for the rear. I had one fatigue crack on me. See the crack going through all the bolt holes. So I decided to go for maximum width since I'm ordering new parts anyway. As a note I didn't order the current sizes. I picked up the wheels 2nd hand from a 2001 ford mustang GT2 racecar. That is why the wheel offset isn't quite ideal yet.

I just bought Work equips, and am wondering about what tire size I should run and how it would fit, and how much pull/roll I need.
98 s14, stance coilovers 18x9.5 front +8 18x10.5 rear +16 I want to run up to a 305 in rear if I can....what do you recommend? Anyone have pics of a similar setup? |

you can easily find and fit a 285/30R18 as they have a super short overall outside diameter and are a somewhat common size. with such a low offset you may be stuck running a 255 out back unless you roll/pull like crazy and also run almost too much negative camber out back

15s & meats for meat sake
The awesome thing about the 15s, is that even in a 50 series they can be more than an inch shorter than 35-45 series17s or 18s. Thereby lowering your entire car without affecting your alignment. Which of course is great for lowering your CG without F*n up your camber curves. Problem is 15" rubber maxes out at about 225s unless you're talking about slicks. You're better off stretching a set of RS3s or XSs in a 225/45/15 than you are trying to find some random tire that just happens to be wider and 15".
The whole point of this Maximum TIRE thread is performance. Not just meats for meat sake. And in you're case you'll get better performance by going smaller because that's where the good tire compounds are available.

This sucks if you are increasing tire width for traction because you are making more power. Going to row through the gears faster and break the tires loose easier.

True dat., but a lot of guys with sr20's wouldn't mind. Plus that also means 5.1% more torque at the wheels. Or you can always throw in a Q45 ring and pinion to compensate.

Thank you for keep this thread going everyone
To RedSVTFlareside can you tell me more info on those wheels, like who they are made by etc... They are thus three piece, you can change both front and rear ends ? Also rip it up welcome Don't lower your car more, it's lame, add more rubber up front instead Improve your car's handling, traction and grip instead of making it slippery Add 245s or 255s or something up front instad. |

Did anyone have problems with their power steering w/ such massive tires in the front?
I was thinking of going with a 255 or 275 up front, on a 17x10 +12 w/ 20mm over fenders. Question is, would I fry the PS pump or fluids? I've heard of people boiling their fluid from huge front tires before, and a cooler is just taxing your pump more than it's designed for, so... what's the word? |

LOL @ power steering. I hate the false feeling you get from power steering. Remove it.
