I just got back from the montreal car show... and daewoo made me laugh, they have on one engine in bold letters e-tec... a daewoo with vvt was enough to make me laugh on it's own, then I looked in the higher model and it was d-tec... maybe they are building up to a-tec or something??? Losers... no wonder they went bankrupt. Saw the matrix, the new tiburon and the ser.... those are some super nice cars for the money...

Wouldn't they be working their way down to, say, a-tec? Since the lower model is E, and the higher D?

Although, I agree with you that it is completely lame! I mean, just give Honda/Acura the credit for coming up with the phrase (insert letter here)-tec. What about ford and their "zetec"

Did Hyundai match the snarling nastiness of their previous Tiburon? That's a pretty tall order... those cars are so "ghetto ghetto I got a nice car look at me" ugly piles! I think it's funny to watch Hyundai rally those cars. Kinda like how Huffy sponsers BMX, but um... buy their bike and....

the new tibby is nice. And for all those that think it;s a cheap piece of sheeeit, this is how honda and toyota started out in this country years ago. Hyndai has the BEST warranty of any car in the states and they are starting to give style and low grade luxury for less than the competition. I'm not saying these are great cars, just saying that every company has to get their foot in the door somehow.

Burgy,
Good point... but I think on something like a car you want good quality over good value. Sure it's cool and all to get a brand new car with a 10 year warranty... Hey you ever seen Tommy Boy? Anyways... Hyundai's have above average problems... and until they start making them a more quality vechile they probably always will... if they start making them nice... wait.. then the price goes up. I'm not a good person to ask however, if two thingsss are the same price, I'd probably buy the more expensive one just to know I did.

Interesting considering Kia is a division of Hyundai Heavy Industries and they share the same part bin. :o:o

Yea... kinda like Infiinti was rated #2 for quality (as far as things going wrong) ... and Nissan was just one above average (around #16 or #17) That study was for 1997 models by JD Powers & Associates.

Yeah the side view of that car kicks major asp. I think they are finally getting good responce from the import market.

But because it has that ugly "H" on it its reviews will be low. There is a girl at my school that has the new lexus and she was pulling in the school and another girl was like WOW what kinda car is that. and I said its a KIA, she was like yeah it looks cheap. I was like well accually its a 40K lexus but If I told you that you would not have said it looks cheap. People buy names as Icons to their own self riotousness thus being the reason I removed all emblems to my car.

Yea... that new Kia luxury sedan is kinda funky looking, but it's allright... if it said Jaguar I'd probably like it. But if it said Jag it would probably break more than the Hyundai!!

plus it has 100,000/10 yr bumper to bumper and lifetime drivetrain which is pretty good if you ask me the only thing i dont like it the fact that its a kia

Man fu* the warranties you guys sound like a bunch of old geezers! When you're buying a "sporty car", you're buying it for performance. Maybe that's just me being young . 180 HP v6 is not performance. Look at the SE-R V-spec 175HP I4. That thing better have lot of torque. Just another civic look a like to me. I keep hearing 200HP neon I4 turbo what's that all about? Now that one will be the better choice.

This thread is hillarious.

Hyunday is simply the alternative for buying used cars. The sad truth is that sometimes, you're probably better off buying a used car. They're simply poor-quality, power-deprived automobiles. Yeah, they may offer accessories. Great. Sounds like women's market. Or rather, average women's market.

let's go back to real cars now... please ?

This is pretty funny, the Japanese car was a cheap alternative to the American car (which wasn't accepted right away), and now the Korean car is the cheap alternative to the Japanese car (which is slowly being accepted). Just think, your kids will all be running around in Kias and Hyundais with "KDM" parts and will BS about turbo plans and engine swaps...lol

I've never seen a Daewoo with e-tec, but they make me laugh everytime I see one.
The old tiburon looked like it was trying way to hard to look sporty. (Thats why I like my s14, and s13's, smooth sporty lines without alot of showy curves.) I'll wait to pass judgement on the new one, but I don't think I'd ever buy a Korean car. This isn't a matter of priciple, I've just heard too may bad things about them. (Kinda like fords...)

"With America's best warranty!"
Disclaimer: You have to actually own, and drive this car to get the warranty.

Anyone who think that Hyundai is second rate, has never been in one from the last 3 years. They are truly amazing. Especially for the price. They are quiet, more refined than most domestics, have loads of helpful and intelligent little options, and whats better still, they finally look good. My friends dad bough an elantra cause it was the cheapest thing out there, and all I gotta say is that that is one impressive little car. I sat in the new tiburon and looked around, and everything is top notch. With dodge have a claim staked in that company, and benz behind that, you know that there is good things on the horizon for them... As for daewoo.... they are some sad... sad vehicles lol. I have never sat in a seat so hard that isn't a bucket, if your window is open you could fly right out the window on a hard turn. But back to my point, if I weren't a die hard nissan fan, that would be a car to get serious thought.... Oh yah, the new Altima is holy shit great.
