I just recently became a 240 owner (again).
I actually bought this car about 6 years ago and had it for about a year before selling it to go back to college. I am now graduated and my buddy I sold it to hit hard times and needed to cash in. The car was running like shit and none of the electronics inside worked. I offered him $2650 for it and he took it. I knew about the car because it was mine before, but I didn't really know what I was doing before so I didn't really know what I had or what I was buying back. I knew it was SR20DET powered but that is about it. It was time to dig in and see what I had. Here she is coming home! And a couple of photos: - Just from first glance.. a list of apparent mods I could see from cracking open the hood/looking at the car Power Train: S14 SR20DET GReddy FMIC w/ piping HKS SSQV BOV Innovate LC-1 Wideband Blitz Radiator Tanabe exhast of some sort (Can only see the muffler, need to see if this is full turbo back or just a muffler) Nismo Clutch Slave Cylinder Exterior: 180SX Tail Lights Silvia Front End Conversion w/ Aero bumper When I had the car before, I did have to replace the clutch slave cylinder. I installed a Nismo unit so I added that to the mod list. The first order of business was getting it to run halfway decent and getting the electronics inside the car to work. Turns out these were both easy fixes. The 75A alternator fuse was blown. As soon as I replaced it, all of the electronics (power windows, lights, etc) on the inside came back to life. After the battery spent some time on a trickle charger, she starts and runs pretty well once it warmed up. I drove it around for a few miles and grinned ear to ear when she still ripped it through 2nd gear. When I first bought the car, the guy who I bought it from was JDM as hell (joke intended) and he told me all sorts of things. One of the things he told me was that I could plug my laptop into the car and tune it. He said it plugged right into the CONSULT port. I wanted to see if there was any truth to this to see if I could easily pull the codes and see if there were any weird fuel maps loaded that might cause it to run like shit when cold. Nistune Included!! I did some research and the only thing that made any damn sense was that it could be a nistune setup. I cracked open the ECU cover and lo and behold, it had a nistune daughterboard already installed. I didn't have the software or a license though, so I chatted with the guys at Nistune and they were nice enough to give me a license once I confirmed the S/N of the daughterboard, and I bought a PMLS Consult -> USB Cable. I was concerned that maybe whoever did the swap didnt wire up the CONSULT cable, but I plugged it in and fired up the software. It all worked. It looks like it has a bad knock sensor. I ordered a new knock sensor from Nissan as well as a wiring specialties sub harness. The car was in a front end collision at some point before I purchased it (the first time) and it pushed in the passenger side core support. It was bubba repaired and the Silvia front end hid the damages rather well. The shell also got beat up pretty good (punks in a parking lot) and so the shell itself is not the best part of the car. I decided to pull off the Silvia Front End and the 180SX tails and replace them with stock parts to try to get some money back out of the car (I don't care about the looks at this point). I pulled the 180sx tails off and the Silvia front end. I was able to find a stock S13 Shark Nose front end as well as stock S13 hatch tails for $350 locally. I yanked off all of the fancy JDM exterior parts and swapped all of the stock stuff back on. I was able to get $1030 for the Silvia front end and $425 for the 180sx tails. Now I am only in this car around $2,000 (after PMLS cable, transportation, DMV fees, etc). The new look: You can tell the passenger side is a little fucked up. - I think the engine bay frame is tweaked to the drivers side. The fender on the passenger side needed some serious persuasion to bolt on and the driver side is bowed out. The hood also had to be adjusted all the way towards the driver side so it didnt rest on top of the fender. She has an appointment to get an estimate on frame straightening and possibly replacing the core support on Thursday. Does anybody have any idea about what it should cost me to get the engine bay frame straightened? |
