S14 fuel sending unit: change 4pin(96+) into 3pin

Can a 4 wire 96+ fuel sending unit be re-pinned for 3 wire and still function?? Leaving out the temp sensor wire not found in earlier tanks?

Its just 3 wires you need on one side that go through to the other side. Look at one side and decide which wires go where, then wire it up. I don't really understand the question. You can for example use the 3 wires for something else entirely just by looking at it and wiring it however you want.

I wouldn't bother repinning though, just cut them and solder then with fuel approved heat shrink if needed. Make sure to use an open flame near the mouth of the fuel tank ofc or it won't be very exciting.

I?d look at both wiring diagrams and rule out what the differences are between the 3 and 4 wire. King is correct in that if it?s just and additional wiring circuit not used on a 95, which it most likely is, it should work if wired correctly.

I used a 1998 fuel tank in my 96, connected the fuel level fine works to this day. I dont see why 95 wouldnt work with 96. I understand now your question is deeper than wiring as it involves resistance and the cluster though. I think mine changed a wire somewhere as well I now have 3 and one of the tank toppers had 4 but I've switched to an S15 tank topper which only has 3 and now I dont know which one has had what but... tank level works so

and by works of course I mean that I get 120 miles out of the first 1/4 tank, 65 miles out of the next quarter, 35 miles out of the third quarter
*shakes fist in futility muttering something about triangles don't belong in cars

The fuel sender resistance should be the same on all S14s.
