literally the rest of my post that you either chose not to include in your quote, or chose to ignore, explains what the topics of conversation have been and again my questions which have not be explained.

im willing to admit that maybe i missed something, but this post was hardly useful lol.

so again, i ask....

my question was whats stopping us from creating a new forum, and relying on the backup of zilvia for historical posts. i understand that its less than ideal, but still seems more of a solution than 4 month downtimes, without the promise of a return.

everything in this thread has been about the unresponsiveness of the domain owner.

what i am suggesting is creating a new forum entirely. it seems that there are people here willing to contribute money and time to run it. also seems to be a few (myself included) IT folk here that see how easy of a solution this would otherwise be.

I think at that point, why bother, when we could all join another existing forum that has archived data the same way zilvia does? Just to say we did something important?

yeah i can see that. i think the issue is there currently isnt any real viable forum still running. Perhaps, like someone else mentioned in this thread, forums as a medium are just antiquated.

S2ki, Bimmerforums, R3vlimited, EvolutionM, NASIOC, Honda-Tech, TheSamba, Pelican, Early911SRegistry, Porsche356Registry, ABCGT.com, The HAMB, Pistonheads.com... all viable forums that have absolute truckloads of information.

The fact remains and will continue to remain that forums are the most reliable depositories of automotive information in the world. You have literally millions of people who have posted in the past two decades about their problems, their fixes, and their innovations. It's not real-time and you have to hone your search-fu, but if you have a problem that doesn't have an answer, you have a problem.

GUYS DON'T WORRY. DON'T WORRY GUYS I'M BACK.

I feel like that scene in Beerfest where the team just got told they were going to lose everything, and Landfill is drinking a beer in the brewery and having flashbacks of the good ol' times.

Everyone that hates me was right: I legit was not SHIT without this forum. Divorce, got fired, developed chemical dependencies. It was bad.

We missed you too asshole.
Really thought you would be one to blame Biden over it too.

I feel like you should sue West for emotional damages.

I got a picture but I can't upload it.

You see Florida man, you have this thing where you like to make REALLY long posts. My attention span is short, Not reading all that. Plus I?m not about to muck up this thread with the same bullshit over and over again.

just a thought. i, like many here, have been on zilvia for +15 years or something crazy. the community relies too heavily on a platform as unstable as zilvia has become - and i think WE (as a community) are starting to realize that.

I mean where else am i going to be able to improperly diagnose my knocking for VCT noise?
Great concept in theory. I've got a backup of the database ready to go even. That said, there's no way I can both transfer the userbase in terms of accounts and disseminating the knowledge of the new location. Any new forum would be forced to start from scratch in those terms, and while I'm confident I could get a majority of the regulars (and 100% of my close circle), the majority of zilvia users would be deprived of this new source, and would only find it by word of mouth, hopefully.

Given how popular reddit and FB groups are, getting users to frequent a forum seems a frightful prospect.

With that said, I've had a new domain (and subsequent socials) registered for the last year or two. I've been planning for this. I'm trying my damnedest to keep Zilvia original and alive, but failing that - I've got a plan.

I got here about a year after it was fairly active, after dragging my feet and at Grant's request. At the time, FreshAlloy was the jam and I was shitposter supreme there. I then got mistreated and found a new home.
