hello again guys. I recently changed my headgasket in my stock jdm 2jz-gte. its a toyota HG with arp studs. The problem is that it would not run. It was running good before HG replacement exept that I had exhaust gasses in the radiator. It has spark and fuel

I had some problems with the Coolant Temp ECU Sensor before. It would not idle sometimes and when I took the plug to that sensor out and put it in couple of times, it would idle fine.

When I try to start the motor now, is it misfiring, backfiring. somtimes it cranks but nothing happens. sometimes it will start a couple of seconds with a rough idle and if I hit the pedal it will die. I checked the timing and the crank pulley is lined up and the camgears to. I checked the ground cables and all sems grounded... But the one to the engine hanger bolt isnt there. I dont remember if I had that wire. I think so but im not sure and I cant find it haha

So what do you think guys? can the problem just be the Coolant Temp ECU Sensor or is it something else? Thanks

Sounds like timing is off. You make sure your crank angle and cam sensors are plugged in?

Thanks guys, kinda funny that one guy says big difference and the other says he didn't notice, hahaha.

Xoxide, definitely let us know how it goes with the spring change.

I'd like to hear from anyone else as well, especially if they can give specific examples of how it affects things. I have a VQ35 in my car now, and I plan to rock it for at least a season, but I'm going to want more power eventually, and a 1J seems a lot more budget friendly when it comes to making good numbers.

yes they are plugged in. It sound like you say that the timing is crazy. Can I maybe installed the cams wrong or something?

Well the intake cam looks totally different then the exhaust cam because of the notches for the cam angle sensors, so hopefully you put them in right

yes you are right. I did get it started. I changed the cam sensor wires. the plug is gone so I have two wires. I changed them and tested them yesterday and it did not work. I change place again and it started up.

But it will not start when the ecu coolant temp sensor is plugged in. Unplugged it will start but I must rev a bit to not let it die. Is it just to change the sensor?

I also have some exhaust leak from the exhaust manifold.

You should be able to start it with the CTS unplugged with no issues. A bad cts usually causes long start up's and can pull timing when making over a certain % in throttle

Edit: first check the ohm reading on the cts, if it's not in spec per the fsm, then replace

okay. but the strange thing is that it will start with the CTS in now. Checked some vaccum hoses and now it runs perfectly (i think). the check engine lamp is now on tho. It didnt work to pull out codes when I connected e1 with te1.

The exhaust leak that i thought I had did not smell exhaust gasses. its maybe some oil or something that i spilled.

I tried to bleed the water system but the lower hose is cold. The thermostat is new.
I took a funnel at the radiator cap place and filled it up. I could see the air coming up and the temperature needle was in the middle. but the lower hose was cold. when I took it to 1500 rpm the water level rised, and when I shut of the engine the water pushed out a bit from the radiator. I didnt raise the front of the car. how can I bleed it correctly so I dont have air in the system and why is the lower hose cold? Thanks

Make sure you plugged your coil packs in the right sequence also. Fuel injectors too.

pull out your wiring diagram and check the colors of the wires against the sequence in the diagram. all the grounds are the same so you need to pay attention to the hot side colors

On the factory harness, it should be pretty obvious, but if you're on a custom harness, you'll probably have to trace them back to the ECU to make sure you have them in the correct order.

I'm not sure if I do or not. I'm thinking I need to change my ka motor mounts out to a fresh set and maybe that will help some.

I noticed a difference. With my car being as low as it is my tires would rub my fender wells when hitting a bump on the highway. When I had my ka-t at the same height I never had "rubbing" issues.

Took it to a drift event and I would keep spinning out on a 3rd/4th gear sweeper. Granted I DIDNT have a front sway bar.

Think I have 8k spring rates in the front, cant recall

here is a video of me at our local track holding an drift event for the first time in about 5-6 years, running on a single turbo setup now.
completely stock 2jzgte vvti ecu and injectors (440cc) at 12psi on a 62-1 with a .68ar car feels amazing and faster than it did with the twins at 15psi.

Does anyone have the the 6sp trans in a s13 (or s14, but I'm sure they may differ). Did you have to do any hammering/massage the transmission tunnel at all? Thinking of selling my r154 setup for my s13. Would like to do some of the hammering now before I get my bay painted if necessary.
