for you fabricators out there i am looking to start fabricating and would like to ask some questions. fist I am going to learn how to weld but once I have gotten my welding down I am going to get a pipe bender so I can build my cage. I was wonder how you guys learned or were taught how to bend the pipe and figure out how much angle you need? I know its a stupid noob question, but I am a stupid noob!

also I was wondering if there are any techniques I should focus and practice on?

Weldingtipsandtricks.com has lots of awesome videos if you'd like to teach yourself welding.

Angle calculations for bends is pretty much just using a protractor or angle finder on the application at hand. Each bender will need to add a spring back amount to that, but you'll figure it out once you have the bender...and it's different for everyone and the material you're using.

Doesn't really say car only. Although it does hint at it.

I personally don't think it should be limited to car fab. Car fab gets monotonous...

These rules get broken so often, lol

I'm glad there wasn't a baby around when I was building this, because I would have punched it.

I'll be sure to keep the pics coming as I go. This is for a RB manifold I'm building.

More work from JP for our track car.

Colby D12 RB25DE header with RB26 flanges

He had to cut the collector off and reposition the front and rear three. The gap between #3 and 4 exhaust ports on the 26 is a little further than the 25.
He also cut the flare off the primaries to slide them through the flanges and weld them from the inside, and fine cut the holes on the flanges since they didn't all match.

For frames do u use 120 wall? What type of steel? My next build is a ratrod something convertible from the late 20s or early 30s I wanted to make my frame from scratch but I have never done anything of that magnitude, and recommendations? Specs for a frame? Or forums? And also do u pull or push while mig welding those frames?

Welder

So I had a thread going to try and find a bay area shop that needs a welder, because i am one, and i LOVE drifting and LOVE anything that has to do with gnarly turbos!
but i want to show off my skills so maybe you can help me find the job of my dreams doing turbos and custom work

I build lots of different stuff for the semiconductor industry, but all with tolerances of .020... either mass production parts or completely custom work, i put my heart into it and take lots of pride in my work.

Ill come to your shop and show you

ps. all the parts are purged with argon on the inside so there is no porosity and no color... basically none of the black shit you always see on the back side of welds.

there are so many other parts and projects...
like the firewall back rhd silvia conversion.

I take it you work in the private industry? Just curious what do they pay you for that work?
