Hello everyone! I was an active member of nissan-240sx.com until I got fed up with all the "Experts". I myself am an ASE master certified technition so I'm not an idiot when it comes to the automotive field.
Anywho..... I have this annoying problem with my '90 240SX SOHC. I developed a Vzzzzzzz sound in my engine under cold start up that eventually got worse and would continue even when the engine warmed up. It sounded to come from the front of the engine so I decided to replace the timing chain, guides, sprockets, hydrolic tensioner, and seals. After replacing everything the noise completely went away.........Until recently...... after about 4 months of being quiet the noise has come back! It's not as bad as it used to be but it's there, and it's the exact same noise. Has anyone had or heard of this problem?? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

That sound comes from the timing chain guides, and tensioners.  There is a really good thread about this over on Freshalloy here:
