Alright, so my 92 vert gets decent amounts of oily fluid in the floorboard behind the seats. It's hard to tell what kind of fluid it is. The only thing I can think of is that the hydraulics for the top is leaking. Has anyone else run in to this issue before?

I've ripped the original carpet out and ordered new carpet...but don't want to put the new stuff in until I figure out where this oily fluid is coming from.
Any ideas??

Hydraulic pump fluid.

Mine went into my trunk, you can manually put the top up or down if you turn the black valve off on the pump in trunk.

Any convertible shop should be able to inspect and fix it.

maybe just a loose compression fitting off the pump or lines or a chaffed line which you can probably replace with a union. If you low on fluid it takes atf.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately for me, the hobby shop that the car is at right now is closed on Monday so I can't go check it out.
I'll check it out and fix it first chance I get though.

What carpet did you order? If you ordered coupe or hatch it won't fit like the original vert carpet. As for fluid, is it in the trunk, or under the rear seat? If it is under the seat your rams are leaking or the lines going to them cracked. It is a hard plastic and the rams move so the lines shatter.

The general consensus in both places I've asked is that the lines or the struts(?)/rams for the top are leaking.
The fluid ends up on the passenger side where the back seat used to be and in the floorboard behind the passenger seat.

I was working on the car earlier this week, but forgot to check the lines....been more focused on prepping the car for the engine swap.
I ended up ordering a coupe carpet from TrimParts. Even if it isn't "perfect" it'll still be better than the original, stained, light grey carpet.

It will fit, just pointing out that it won't be perfect. I used hatch carpet with no issues, well that I cared about. I had to replace my rams and they were not overly expensive, like 90 bucks each so it won't break the bank.

I gotcha. Either way, the vert is a every other weekend cruiser. The carpet is simply a creature-comfort.
Being over here in Hawaii, the cost for replacements will be more than 90, hopefully it isn't too bad. Guess I'll be giving the stealership a call.

OK I was wrong about the 90, just went and looked up my purchase and it was $125.

First time back since having to go back to work.
I'm guessing you were able to use the stock lines with the replacement cylinders?
Looking at ordering cylinders from <http://www.convertiblecylindersdirect.com/catalog/item/7730638/8231692.htm> and hoses from <http://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts-list/1993-nissan-240sx/convertible-interior-exterior.html?Diagram=985_Z01>
Since the place the mfg's the cylinders used Nissan's specs, everything should be good. Looking at about $450 (incl shipping).
