S13 Drag Wheels

I'm building a drag S13 and wanted to find out what size drag wheels I need to buy to run the largest slicks possible. I'd prefer people with actual experience and not what you think might fit. I plan on running 15" rims unless you know 14" will clear the stock brakes.

i would look into the Weld Drag light 15x8 5.5 Backspace in the 4x4.5 lug pattern.

you can run a 275/60/15 on those wheels. and Mickey Thompson makes about the best drag tires you can run.

Thanks for the reply that's the great first hand info I was looking for. On the tires though I see the MT listed differently like 28x10 what size would I get? Also what are you running in the front?

FYI thats not my car, but i am one of the few "drag" style people on here.

but tire size has alot to do with what class you run in, or if you just want a fast drag setup. and what suspension you go with.

this is the tire i would be getting, and will be getting.

That's my build thread. I need the most traction I can get. I believe for most classes I can fit into the biggest I can run is 28x10.5 iirc but I'm not sure if that fits or even what that ='s in normal tire size.

at 1000RWHP S13 i would be looking into an automatic, and see if you can do some sort of ford 9" rear end swap. unless that breaks what ever class rules your looking to race. Also the 28 is how many inchs TALL the wheel is. and 10.5 is how wide it is. so some simple math can help you out.

Yeah I've got a coan racing TH400 already and I may swap in the 9" rear end but as you said I believe that would disqualify me from a few classes I'd like to run. Eventually I'll have to swap it in but I'd like to try and run it with the stock rear end and see how far it can get me.

Is it only me, or these tires are too small for 275/60-15 (28")?

For Weld Draglites, do you need to swap studs too (in the rear)? Or are stock long enough?
So many people run them but I couldn't find this out

Summit Racing SUM-7540120 - Summit Racing® Lug Nuts - Overview - SummitRacing.com probably?
I already found out that stock studs are not long enough - they're only 1.57" long, so 1.387" shank already takes up most of the length.
Seems I just cannot justify all the extra espenses and hassle with shank-style wheels for so little weight saving...

Do you have any close-up pics? I can't imagine how 2" long lug nuts are fine with 1.57" studs (and by the rules studs must protrude at least 1/10" past the lug nuts).
P.S. What's the price and BS?

Bringing this back from the dead, don't give a shit!

Ok so i'm having a little problems trying to get my drag wheel setup ideal. I ended up ordering Weld draglites with some troubling specs on them, I don't know much about wheels offsets and crap like that so that said my wheels are 15x8 4x4.25" and 4x4.5" back space.

Now i was told 4x4.5" is wider then a 5x5.5 back which didn't make sense to me the higher the number the wider the backspace is? Anyways i ended up getting some M/T ET drag radials 255/60/15 for the welds all though i originally wanted the 235/60/15 but oh well.

Few questions, i ended getting the summit racing lug nuts posted above in this thread originally and was wondering did anyone use Extended studs or are the lug nuts literally long enough to fit with the stock studs on the car through the rim???

Now for my problem the damn offset if really off on my car when i test fitted them i was hoping and thinking originally the wheels were going to sit flush inside the rear but guess not....

Friends were telling me to roll and pull the fenders, not my kinda thing so i'm thinking about adjusting and raising up the coilovers on the rear high any opinions?

I literally just got my wheels & tires yesterday. 235x60x15 MT ET radials. I also got the draglites but with the 5.5 backspace. They look like they'll fit perfectly flush on my S13 but I'm waiting on the lug nuts ( linked above ) before I can confirm.

To answer your question though: I don't see anyway your getting those inside the fender wells. I think the 4.5 backspace is the issue.

Backspace measures the distance from the mounting plate to the back edge of the wheel. The higher the backspace the further into the fender well it will sit.

Looks like 5.5" would have been a lot better fit. Maybe even 6".

Well my lugs came in today and i checked them for fitting and it looks like a pretty TIGHT fit! Can't say how they fit with my stuck studs as i can't do any test fitting until the weekend so hopefully you come out with a report before i do, here's some pics though...

Well The summit racing lug nuts fit great with the stock wheel studs thank god and best money spent on lug nuts! unfortunately i'm screw and probably be selling my Weld's as the fender is still sitting on the tire even after lifting the rear end up and maxing out the height on my coilovers unless i pull the shit out my fenders which i don't really want to do.

If i get lucky and manage to trade someone off for the right sizes i need which i seriously doubt it i can't do nothing with them meanwhile.

Word of advice to anyone looking for welds AVOID getting anything 4x4.5 back and less or your car will look like this unless your fenders are cut/pulled or running widebody.
