Exclamation Project SR86

Holy Shit another Build by Sileighty_85?

So about a year ago I finally came across a AE86 coupe Shell in fairly good condition without the "Drift Tax"

Body is straight, very minimal rust only two deep spots

For now a few things are gonna mocked up temporarily until I know for sure the engine is in good condition. Then later I can go back and make it better.

Im gonna post up sections at a time so its not one giant thing of pics.

So here we go

Nasty color, gonna have to repaint black

Def needs works on the interior

Trunk O Parts

PO had an SR20 in the chassis and included the engine and transmission mounts for the SR (horrible fitment though)

I missed my old Levin I had when i was Okinawa

Swept the interior and cleaned the interior pieces

began deleting those gay ass parking lights

Got in my used carpet!

Nice N Dirty

Cleaned the floor boards a little bit more and Rustproofed the rusty spots

ahhh so much nicer, looks more like a car

I need a seat

Now the fun part

Finally had some free time and an SR bellhousing so i can drop in the SR!

It was fairly easy to drop it in just had a hard time getting the engine shoehorned in there but one it cleared the upper core support it wet in fairly easy.

had to shave down this part to clear the steering shaft

Yes I had a Durrr Moment when I cut it off and did not not have the turbo drain covered

The mounts that came with the chassis suck, the front sits way too high and i cant close the hood, so It looks like I'll have to make some new mounts

So heres how she sat

Too some stock SR mounts cut them in half

Pulled the rubber mounts off and used some scissor jacks to get my height & angle

Cut some metal and with my Shitty harbor freight welder I "welded" the brackets and shit up

Im def gonna have a professional re weld these lol

And bam passenger side mount done

Got the Driver side Mount finished

Manifolds Mock Up

Just loosely slipped them on to see how'd they look

Lol your neighbors must hate you for doing all of this in the parking lot. Looking great though. So is this going to be a daily or a track car?

haha I love this. Nothing like a good ol' parking lot swap. And I'm curious as to why you chose an sr over a ka?

I had an extra SR and tons of extra parts just sitting in storage taking up space.

Plus not a fan of the KA.

I wouldn't really call it low budget. You wont see me uses Megan Shit. I use quality parts, but I get them for cheap. Or if its something I can make myself

Thanks Guys,

Got my parts for the SR from Nissanparts.cc

Full SR tranny bellhousing Bolt Kit, Turbo Oil return gasket, Fuel Injector Rail spacers, turbo locking tabs, Transmission front cover gasket

So I needed some new door handles since mine broke but mainly for the passenger side, and since AE86 are rare to come by went out hoping to find another cassis that uses the same door handles.

Closest thing I could find it an AE92

Fairly similar design

Took it apart and shaved down the read areas and it "kinda" poped right in, but worked like a charm

Got in my parts to bolt up the T25

Finally Got around to do the wiring.

Had a bunch of OEM Relays and a S14 Alarm Relay Box that works perfect since i only need 3 relays

I need to redo a lot of the connections since I have a Shitty ass Radio Shack Soldering gun

Need to clean it up a little more too

Bam Cant even tell

Haha Yeah Ive been wanting another Hachi Roku Since I left Okinawa.
Thanks!

I need to get some lower profile tires, I put spacers on since then so they are almost flush.

Awesome F'n news,

If my measurements were correct turns out this TRD Diff I pulled from one of my Spare Levin Diffs Ive had laying around for 5 years is a Kouki model, so I can put it to use now!!!

got a free crappy turbo elbow so I can use to fab up my exhaust

I was hoping to be able to squeeze this in between the the Steering shaft and block but not enough space....

Ghetto Fabbing to the MAX!

Working on a elbow that will clear the steering shaft since it wont fit between the block and shaft

Dont say shit about my welding it a Harbor freight welder, and its not done yet

Yes its very inefficient with the bends buts its the only way
And yes I know that theres a Manifold that will correct this issue but im not gonna spend $800 on one just yet

Thanks!

Totally RAPED this Kouki SR5 AE86 in this junk yard

Got all these parts for $100

Heres my solution for the SR shifter

Normally ppl will use the stock SR shifter and cut up the interior and shorten the Ebrake since it hits when in 2-4-R gears.

Didnt wanna do that so I modified the SR Shifter.

Neutral

2nd Gear

Lookin good. I would add a gusset or two on the shifter mod though. You've just created a nice lever arm that I could see breaking during hard driving.

Ehhhh, Im not really worried about it. Its a shifter, theres not much resistance or force required to shift. I dont know how you shift but I dont slam gears everytime I shift like Jackie Chan in that Rally Movie

Got in my Couplers

got in my slutes, but messed up on a few measurements and need to get them swapped out

finally started fabing up piping for the IC.
Used a GReddy IM style pipe since it will give me some more clearance with the radiator

then modded a Blitz lower Pipe

gettin pretty close might shave off an inch or two

Finished fabing up the IC pipes, now just need T-Bolt Clamps

I stumbled across a radiator I can use. It came from an AE72 (1983 4Door)
Its a two core but a little bit shorter than the AE86 Rad.

Had to weld in some lower mounts for the rad an modify an upper holding bracket

I think it will work pretty good

Love It! Thats one thing I hated about living at apartments, the places didn't want to see you do this to your car. Glad you can get away with it and show us a fun build. Ready to see it sideways.

Yeah they never said anything to me and Ive lived there for like 4 years, but the key is when your done for the day is to clean up everything and make it look like it runs.

Alright, heres my idea for fixing the AE86 Speedo issue.

Seems most ppl will use a 280ZX speed sensor and use the mechanical speedo.
well its kinda hard to find one and I got a bunch of spare parts lying around.

Had an SR5 Dash lying around

Took apart the 86 Speedo

used a stock S13 Speedo I had lying around, cut out a hole to shone horn it

Not too shabby. I would have rather fixed it from behind but there is not enough room for it.

then riped out the cluster and dash trim and slap a Boost gauge in it and swap the modded speedo in to the GTS cluster for the higher Red Line Tach gauge

Then Got it wired up for the most part and back in the Hachi

Yeah it looks janky but damnit it will work haha

Thanks Guys, Not to shabby for a Parking lot build. Right?

Well finished up on the wiring and she fires up and runs off of starter fluid, just need to drop the tank and install the Walbro and bigger return line.

Then Went and visited the Inlaws in Okinawa for 3 weeks.

While I was there I was able to pick up quite a few parts including 2 sets of Levin Headlights for $100

Dropped the tank in the Hachi to install the pump and run bigger return line

Power washed the tank

Heres what the tank pretty much looked like.

After the wash

Modded the stock fuel unit with a bigger 5/16 return hose over the 3/16 stock return hose.

Now just need to run new tubing up to the engine bay.

Its pretty nasty since all I got is a shitty HF welder. Ill make another one later

Dear home owners association,

We pay are monthly lease to live in a secluded, gated community, we do not pay our lease to be associated with the new mechanic shop; located on the east side of the apartment complex. It does not meet OSHA standards, it is a liability issue. Please resolve this issue, before any further action will be taken.

Regards,

The Neighbors
