I've noticed a lot more Recaro talk and came across this earlier...

Do you have friends in Japan?

Paint it or wrap it in fabric... Wrapping looks 1000 times better than painting it.

this works on exterior plastics and might work on the dash as well. might as well give it a try. if it doesnt work youlll still be able to use it on other items

Mothers Back-To-Black Bumper & Trim Care restores black plastic & rubber bumpers and trim to their original black color. Care for your car's bumper

that, or a similar product geared more towards the dash, ie a leather cleaner/conditioner. GL

i think when your trying to make something look oem as possible ( thus using the wrinkle when he did it).. it is best to make the wrinkle as close to stock as possible. Its a good quality job, but can be done even better. Without criticism then he won't improve.

if you can't tell the difference in the wrinkle job then your're just not detail oriented as you may think.

I don't use fiberglass in any of my projects. For the texture I have used various texture coatings, wrinkle coatings and chip guard.

Just so you know I'm not trying to match the OEM texture. So far it has been impossible to match the texture exactly, which looks like vinyl, with a spray can. I have tried several processes and they either were not perfect or the finish was not durable enough. On top of that I modify so many pieces that have different textures from the factory. So to come up with 10 different texture processes that all match their OEM part perfect isn't in the cards. It's not like the texture of the OEM S14 vent trim matches the texture of the OEM S14 dash board anyway. The only thing the OEM S14 vent trim matches and comes in contact with is the radio trim and the shifter trim.... which is why I would simply recommend having me spray all three pieces. That way they will all have the same EXACT finish. Even if I did match the exact texture, the piece I texture would have a perfectly fresh finish on it compared to the radio trim/shifter trim that is 15-20 years old and faded, scratched etc. So it would be best to refinish those anyway in my opinion.

Now if I did this stuff from a mold, then sure, I could get that texture spot on. But every single piece I make is one-off... so making a plug/mold isn't going to happen.

With that being said, I am always trying new texture processes etc. From the first cluster I built to the ones I build now, pretty much the entire process has changed. I make the main gauge plate completely different, I use a different texture/paint process and I use different indicators. I'm actually going to change it up again and try a completely different type of material for the main plate on the next cluster I make. So I definitely don't rest on my laurels. If you haven't figured that out just in the way I mod my car then you aren't paying attention.
