hmmm, yeah the parking lot there is to small now that I think of it. The best spot would be the Big 5 parking lot. To get to that get off on the Madonna exit as planned, take a left turn. and about .3 miles or less there is a McDonalds on the left side of the road, turn in there, and drive past the McD's and Big 5 is on the right, lots of parking there.

Mike: Please confirm with drifting240racer that he'll be coming with us and get his name and phone number. Also ask Pat if he'll be coming with us also, and get his info. I don't think he's aware of all the posts in this thread. And ask Koto if he wants to be in our group. Also, if you're not running your car on the track, you don't need to get it teched.

Mike/Rudy: And you guys don't need to wait for me to come back to CA to get your cars teched. O_o I wasn't even planning a teching day or anything. There's still plenty of time to get your cars teched, but we need to figure out who's sharing a hotel room with who before July 8. BTW, Rudy, are you Filipino?

Bill: Is there any good parking place that's visible right when we get off 101 in San Luis Obispo?

JEFF: Please find out the address of that CalTrain/Amtrak station. Thanks.
ALAN: E-mail Mike your phone number so we can contact you later by e-mail and phone. Thanks.

ATTENTION:
- Traffic/Time. Please continue discussing ways to avoid traffic and arrive at the hotel on time. Where should we get off 101? By what time should we be at San Luis Obispo, Thousand Oaks? What routes should we take before/once we're in LA?
- Caravan. If you'll be part of the caravan and have not confirmed it with S14.5 Mike through e-mail, please do so with the following info: name, phone number, location. [email protected]
- Group leader. We need one more group leader. Each group leader will be responsible for keeping his group together and reporting in to the other group leaders. Each group leader must have a mobile phone so that he can contact, or be contacted by, the other groups if they're out of the 2-way radios' range.
- Hotel. Remember that reservations at the Event Hotel need to be made before July 8. I suggest that a few of you volunteer to be responsible for making the hotel reservations, and mention how many people you're willing to share your room with. Then we can either let people choose their hotel groups or assign them their hotel groups.

The Big 5 is actually VERY easy to get to from the exit, its like no problem at all, and its the closest and best spot to park.

Wow. I don't mean to sound racist or anything but I bet a lotta ppl say you look like you're black. =P You're from Alameda, right? Mike hasn't given me your info yet.

Tech inspection
It looks like all the SpeedTrialUSA tech inspection locations are in SoCal or other states. We can tech our cars at the track for free because we're not within 20 miles of any of the listed locations.

Yeah we're waiting for Jeff for the train station's address. =P From Hercules, you just get on 880 South and keep going. If you can stay with your cousin in Milpitas, that'd be great, since it's right above San Jose.

I just got back from a week at my church empowerment camp so that's why I haven't been replying

Well, the station doesnt' really have an address but here's the official web site

http://www.transitinfo.org/Caltrain/...s/Blossom.html

The red curved line above the station is labled 521, that's 101.
The station is 72

Here's the directions, you can check a map for clarification
~101 (north or south)

~Blossom Hill exit (coming from the north take a right, from south take a left)

~The road will split, go right (the road drops and swoops left, onto Monterey Road)

~You'll run into a signal light, turn left (you'll go under an overpass)

~You should be going South on Monterey and you will see Walmart, Albertsons, Walgreen, Taco Bell and stuff on your left side. Take a left on Ford Road (it's the signal light right after the shopping center, after Taco Bell)

~You'll see the parking lot on your right (of Ford Road), it's huge so you can't miss it.

Note for group leaders, do they know where they're going?

TJ- You know where he's talking about for the Madonna Inn stop, cause I do. So should the leaders know where we're going (been there before)? How fast do you drive on the freeway? Did we group the drivers by speed too?

As for Thousand Oaks, we can stop next to the automall. There's a shopping center. I don't remember what the name of the exit is, I just know it when I see it. You're driving down 101 and you'll see the automall on your left, take the first exit and turn left, you'll see the shopping center on your left (the shopping center is not that big but there's gas and food)

Who wants to split a hotel room? (someone that's mellow and likes to get sleep) one other person or more, I don't really mind. Who else is staying at the hotel?

See, that's just it.

About 80-85% of the attendees of the event are coming from out of state, or are not close enough to a tech station. If you are going to tech the day of the event, good luck.

It is your responsibility to tech prior to the event if at all possible. If you do not tech in a timely fashion and miss track time, it is your fault entirely.

I am offering to tech Saturday night (out of my own spare time, and some other folk's spare time), so please do try to take advantage of that.

Are you saying there are other locations for tech inspection other than the ones listed in SpeedTrialUSA's site? Like in the SF Bay Area? Or do people have to make appointments with the listed locations in SoCal?

Also please give us some info on the Saturday night tech inspection you mentioned. Thanks.

And to everyone else... Again, I'm not planning, or helping to plan, nor am I planning on planning where/when the SFBA people will get their tech inspections done.

Groups info. Well I've never been to any of the suggested stops that we've come up with. I don't know if TJ has either. That shouldn't be a problem though, I hope. We'll figure out exactly how to get to those places later (like which exits to take). I hope everyone's responsible enough to drive at a speed that doesn't leave anyone in the group behind or make the CHP pull us over. Remember when you're in a group, you can't be going at speeds like 90 or 100 mph.

This only happens in the mountains though, right? With AT you can't rely much on engine braking so maybe you were just overworking your brakes when going downhill. Maybe you wanna go in the mountains again and try using the brakes less (like braking harder to slow down and then release the brakes, rather than riding on the brakes) to see if that solves the problem. Or if you're going under 50 mph, try driving in 2nd gear.

Anyway, you might wanna post the problem in the Tech section so we don't get too off-topic here.

Here's the deal.

You can get your car teched 3 ways (assuming you live more than 25 miles away from the closest tech shop):

1) At one of the locations listed on the SpeedTrial website within 2 weeks of the event.

2) Make an appointment with me to tech on Saturday night at the hotel in Lancaster. [email protected]

3) Tech at the track on the day of.

Haha, was just trying to help save you some money dood, cuz I thought it was only in the mountains. And I don't really wanna come back. Taipei's a nice place to live, and Chinese girls are everywhere. *_* But on the other hand, I really miss driving. O_o Taking the subway everyday's fun but I wanna go driving again! I miss my POS car. :P ANYWAY... Please remind Koto to find out ASAP whether or not he'll be caravaning with us. Also please ask Pat and Ben if they'll be coming with us. Thanks a lot.

Tech inspection. Okay, everyone who's gonna run their cars at the track, I hope you've read the message from Alex. E-mail him at [email protected] to arrange your Saturday night tech inspection, or have your tech inspection done at the track.

I know there are only certain shops from the speedtrial's website that are acceptable for teching. But would a Nissan dealership service department be acceptable for teching, if the check off sheet is printed from the http://www.speedtrialusa.com/techformwest.html website for them to use as guide? Assuming that the dealership would do it. If the dealership wouldn't do it, how about a race car shop. I don't mean imports shop, but a real race car shop, NHRA certified or something.

If so this would save alot of time to those that can do it.

Thank you.

If anyone still needs a helmet let me know, i'm going to be ordering some from Bell. Star 1's
Black or White.

Still working out the details but should be around $100. Send an email to [email protected]

I'll probably order by the end of this week. This will be easy for you NorCal people because you can just pick it up from me or I can drop it off.

Go to http://www.thebellstore.com for sizing

No, because we would have no control over who does the tech work.
