I am making 10 bolt in cages for R35 GTR's. I started with a run of 5. I bent up 5 hoops.

They are all exactly the same which is a good thing.

Then put them in this crazy ass jig that I made to position the harness bar tabs, rear X brace tabs, and feet.

You guys can see the jig is made from 2"x4" .120" tubing. It is important to have a super strong jig.

Then I welded up the feet brackets that I had laser cut.

And put them in the jig to weld upto the hoops.

Notice how tightly everything fits together.

Fun stuff!

All done. Rear X braces coming soon!

^Really nice stuff guys.

I have to say, I bought a 4x6 bandsaw today that is decent quality and I must say WHY DIDN'T I BUY ONE BEFORE. Yeah it doesn't cut at lightspeed but everything fits up so nicely afterwards and when I run it my ears don't get raped 10 fold by an abrasive saw. The mess is also in a small area unlike all over the whole god damn garage with a chop saw.

Yea. Band saws are rad. Esp for heat sensitive materials like 4130 and 304.

So when I started this thread I said "No bolt in cages" what I meant was dont buy a bolt in cage and then show it off here. It is ok if you fab your own and post pics.

Here is the rear down bars that I made tonight for some R35 cages. I will make the middle "X" pieces tomorrow on our new notcher and show that off as well.

Also will be making a full cage for the white Z06 and will post up pics.

so, in spite of me busting my oil pan last night and having to jb weld it so i could make it home i'm looking at aftermarket pans...i dont' really want an aluminum one as i feel they'd break easy, so i am toying around with the idea of making one out of mild steel like the oem pan. i would use the oem flange and drain (weld it in) for my base, but is it worth it? i wouldn't know what dimensions to make or anything, i can tig it no problem but idk.

I haven't weight it if I would guess maybe 8-10 pounds ... But I'm not sure. I been getting alot of pm to fabricate those but I don't feel comfortable doing so for the reason I don't have a tube bender nor a notcher to get perfect fits. And it's very time consuming, .. So for the momment no.

Yea I get it's for torsional rigidity, just imo it seems like the benefits are minimal. But it came out great. Good work! Love the paint too.

I need to make one for myself.

Yea just hit me up in advance so I can see when I have time.

Progress continues on the school project. The grinders are so contaminated and I got no where else to sharpen my tungsten. grrr And I can't use acetone in the welding lab to clean the tubes. Any how here's what I've been working on this past week.

It just depends on how you weld with TIG
I like to use a small fill rod and dip often
some people like to use big rod and dip less

a good rule of thumb to start out is the thickness of the material
but is not critical

Zilvia fabricators, When you build your cages for drifting do you single plate, double plate, or box in your posts?

How thick should the steel be, and whats a good website to buy it.
