Why do some people do tubs and some people just do tube and cut all the sheet metal out that's near the front of the tires?
Budget? Summer only cars? Dgaf?

Most people like myself do tubs to keep water and everything else on the road from getting in the engine bay. Those that do tube fronts usually use their cars as track cars. In all honesty its what you prefer.

Since I had to replace the "tray" in front of the tub too, I drilled and cut it all out first, mocked up the "tray" with cardboard, then held up the fender to get a rough estimate of how far it should go. It probably comes forward some 4-5 more inches than stock wheel wells, I'm guessing.

So I figured I'd asked here since I've been wanting/needing to tub the wheel wells of my s13 so I can go to full lock on modified knuckle set up. I've never been a fan of the tub that uses the traailer gaurds because I think it looks too bulky/cramped IMO.
However, I've been think about reusing the stock wheel well cut out and having it "shift" forward a couple inches. This should give me more room from the wheels, while keeping the stock shape and use of the stock mounts for my ARC induction box. I was wondering if anyone had or seeing it done? or even thought about it but chose to do other wise? Any thought is greatly appreciated. |

Tackling my tubs this week. I am no fab guy. but with this thread I have been able to work through this with out any troubles! Ty guys!
Materials: 10 3/4 Width - 16 gauge trailer fender 16 gauge sheet metal Template of the shock tower. The tubs will be flush with rail, without having the boxy edge sticking out past tower. Where I am cutting, to fit "tub" around tower. Cardboard template. The curved edge sits too tall, I have to shave off 2 1/2 - 3 inches off the bottom. I have one small square piece on the end of the fender rail I cut (getting tubed front rolled as we speak) Rectangle piece will be a plate that will be formed to the shape of the top edge of tower. Figured it would not hurt to give it some support Just another angle of what I have mocked up. Shows the long rectangle piece on the rail. It will not be as long as I have it now just didn't know how long I will need, until I cut the trailer tub and fit it. So what do you guys think? Anything I missed or would recommend doing/modifying, before I cut the pieces out and start welding??

I'd like to know what everyone does for painting the engine bay. How many of you actually paint it and how many just rattle can it?

not 100% done yet. decided to do a tube front as well so I'm going to tie it all in and make it much nicer. just to give advice to anyone looking to do theirs go wider than i did do you don't have that flat part on the side. i used a 10-3/4 wide and 32'' long trailer fender. worked out perfect just wish i moved it over a little bit. |

another reason some people go the "tube" route instead of tubs is because it allows them to keep the front corners of their car softer and less rigid. which is important in drifting because your car will take less damage and it will not interrupt your drift like a rigid corner would.

That's what I'm after too. Less couplers and short ic piping.
I'm thinking tube front and mid mount with a large intercooler. We'll see once it warms up outside.
